Sync button keeps flashing and going out of time

I’ve just started using the sync button to buy myself time to learn other things like the pads, but for some reason when I press sync on the tune I’m syncing to the first playing track (which has sync applied) but in the second track after clicking sync it starts by not flashing then after 16 or so beats it starts flashing by itself and going out of sync.

Could this be to do with the best grid?

I play house music and all my tracks are analysed automatically when I load them in to engine and when I’ve looked the beat grid seems to be correct so not sure why it’s moving out of time? I’m also matching the tempo so both tracks are the same, do I need to do this?

Also when I have synced one track with another and now the second track playing has the sync button on as active, when I mix into a third track, I’m clicking the sync button on the third track so it syncs with the second track which is playing but then the sync button on the second track starts flashing and the sync goes out of time.

What am I doing wrong?

Update I’ve realised that on the tracks I’m testing this on the beatgrid goes off the beat later into the track slightly. But for about a quarter of the track length the bestgrid appears to be on the beat.

Might seem like a dumb question (sorry I’m a newbie) but how do I adjust the bestgrid so that it’s on the beat at the begging and also on the beat at the end of the track?

This You can do on the computer in Engine Prime. There are special controls for that.

Load the track in Engine Prime

Click the beat grid Edit mode in Engine Prime

This is how I do it For Quantized tracks (not live drums)

If the grid lines up at the beginning, jump to the end of the track, use the + or - buttons beside the bpm display.

  • will expand/stretch the grid (reduce the bpm) -
  • will squeeze the grid (increase the bpm) +

Do this to line up the grids

You can place an anchor on the very first beat, but people are having funny results with that in situations where there is a silent lead in before the first beat. If you drop a beatanchor at the beginning the the part before the beat anchor is treated as a different bpm to the part after the beat anchor.

I avoid dropping a beat anchor except when I’m beatgridding non Quantized music

I line up the automated grid at the beginning of the song, using the slide left or slide right. Then I scrub to the end to if the track to stretch or squeeze to line up that bit as well.

Once you are happy with your result, lock the track
