I am emotionally flooded and lost for words. I have no Idea what happened, I did not do anything to my hard drives, I had never had Problems like this before and now the work of a few years including a Giant music collection and around 15 Sets I had put together but not played or recorded yet is just gone. Not even mentioning around 10 playlists with just favorite songs I had picked out over years I wanted to use in Sets at a later point. If this is really the end of the road I might just sell my controller and change to another brand that does not have problems that ruin multiple years of work in an heartbeat. Please help
Not that it matters but after more looking it is more like 80-90%…
The last thing I was doing with Engine Dj was adding a few very big Music Folders to my collection around a week ago. Since than I had Engine Dj running in a tap but did not really work or look into it. When I today wanted to start working on it I restarted Engine DJ and suddenly all gone…Not 100% sure if it was already gone before the restart since I didn’t take a closer look
But you backed up your collection before adding a few very big music folders, right? Also, I’m unclear about the 2nd half of your last post. Do you mean that you left Engine DJ running in the background for week?
Yes I did have Engine Dj running for about a week maybe even slightly longer, my PC is basically running all the time. Last time I backed up was when I closed restarted it just today, I am just stun locked and scared to do anything right now fearing I am gonna do something wrong. Can you go back to different backup points or just the last one? I am not positive the problem was already there when I backed up while closing the application before restarting it right after
I usually just back up when it asks me to backup when quitting the application, not sure if I did in the process of adding those folders tbh
Interestingly the Folders I had added are all still there which just statistically makes me think it had something to do with it, while those new around 15-20 folders are still all there every other genre, sets, song pool etc lost around 70-80%
Ok, tryed to restore and same â– â– â– â– , was the restore point from now yesterday aka 3-4 hours ago. Is there a way to go back to earlier restore points?
More context needed. Do I understand this correctly, the collection in Engine DJ desktop is gone? Like playlist etc? When did you back up the Engine DJ files last time? With that I don’t mean back up in Engine DJ. I mean the library files digitally backed up? If not long time ago just use this back up by replacing the library files.
I did back it up last time yesterday. Problem being that I had backed it up when restarting the application after it was running in the background on my PC for around a week. Last thing I had done before (before the one week of chilling in the background) was adding around 1 tb of Music to my collection. After adding those I didn’t notice any problems. I went to Germany for a few days while my PC was running with a torrent software doing some work downloading on a hard drive not being used for my collection ( downloading files in the public domain). When I now restore it is still the same picture, around 80% of my playlists being gone. I have no Idea what caused this or how to get those playlists back. Thanks for your help
Re-create the playlists the same as they are on your performance drive. Don’t add any music to them just re-create them using the same naming conventions (uppercase, lowercase and spaces etc. connect your performance drive then sync the performance drive back to engine main.
Whilst I’ve not done a few sync before I have updated playlists on my performance drive and sync’s those changes back with success
Thanks for the help, I will try this, quick question, I still have some of the playlists on my controller, if this is not working out can I just sync back what I have on my controller to my performance drive?
Good question but it’s one I cannot answer, I would expect it to remove the playlists on the performance drive that are not present on Engine DJ. I’ve never tried doing that, both drives are the same. Try what I said above to recover your missing playlists (use a small one first). Once they are back in sync you should be good.
When Engine DJ performs a backup it overwrites the previous backup (which you have found out). I often do a manual copy of the backup and save it with that days date so it gives me multiple copies to restore from if needed. It’s just a DB backup so does not take up much drive space.
Good luck !!
I will try but am slightly anxious if I can even remember all the names, was managing a 4tb collection on there (which was probably not a good idea to begin with) with tons of genres, sub genres, song pools as preparation for sets, sets etc …Thank you anyway for your effort and hope dies last <3 I think I will for now focus on the personally crafted stuff and than go from there…
You should consider to create a full backup of your pc library before you start to try to recover it. That would help to be able to come back to the current status quo. I say that because it is not unusual that non tested recovery workflows make it even worse.
I know that doesn’t help you in the current situation but for the future you should really think about a proper backup solution If the content is so important for you. In the end all of this digital solutions have one thing in common. They are all based on some sort of Software and there is no error free software out there. or in other words it is only a question of time when such a major error will happen again no matter which brand we are talking about.
Switching gear will not be a solution for this problem
Do you have a dedicated performance drive which connects to your controller and a local copy on your computer which is used to make the playlists ? I’ve made an assumption that is what you have. I also assumed it’s the playlists on the computer that you have lost.
If I’m correct then the playlist’s should still be active on the performance drive. Connect that to your controller and it will show you the playlist names which can be used for rebuilding. If you are using a single drive to store and manage the collection then you will have lost those playlists. If the actual music files are still in place then it would point to db corruption which can happen if a drive is not unmounted correctly or do to a software crash.
Thanks again, I misunderstood performance drive, yes I have a hard drive in my controller and multiple ones in my PC. I did not sync all my playlists etc from my pc to my controller. Yes the playlists are still active on my performance drive but just the ones I synced to it. Is there data of all playlists on the performance drive to or am I missing something. @Reinhard_Luediger 100% agree, need to work on my backup routine and the first post was written in rage, will not change gear, love my controller to much and overall happy with Denon
If the “missing” computer playlists are not present on the performance drive you will not be able to use it to recover them.
