Been having this ongoing issue with Engine DJ on my laptop during playback, I get intermittent stuttering with every track I play which I do not have when using VDJ, I am using a Fiio K5 Pro as my soundcard.
Stuttering can be an indication of a buffer under run.
Does this happen with the internal sound card? How is the Fiio K5 connected to the machine?
What does your buffer size look like and have you tried to increase it? Also, sample rate may be an issue if it’s above what the Fiio can handle?
Fiio contracted via USB, already tried adjusting the buffer settings, no dice.
Directly or through a hub? Also, what type of port on the computer is it connected to? USB2, 3.0, 3.1…?
Hub, USB 3.0, should not be a problem since no issues with VDJ or Foobar.
So Engine DJ is not supposed to be a source for playback but just a database. That being said it should be able to play back your media without stuttering. As DJliquidice asked, what happens when you play over the internal sound card? Also, you didn’t mention whether your media is on an internal drive or external drive and what the file format of your audio tracks are.
I wonder if Engine DJ is analysing 8 tracks at once, or however many threads it is, while playback from Engine DJ is being attempted - I’d have thought that all that background processing could cause most laptops (especially those with hubs) to choke somewhat
I don’t use my laptop’s soundcard (personal preference, not enough juice for my headphones/IEM’s I.e. planar drivers), database located on internal SSD with a mix of 320 kbps and FLAC files all run thru Mp3tag and Platinum Notes.
My laptop is pretty beefy (MSI gaming with GPU albeit 4 years old now), no issues with analysis and I usually wait for it to finish after adding new tracks before I start playback.
Regardless of the level for your headphones, does it stutter when using the internal sound card? I ask because if it doesn’t then it tells you it’s something to do with the additional sound card and or the cable connecting it..
I will try later and update, thanks.
