I was messing around with replaygain setting on my MP3s recently (mp3gain), kind of miss autogain feature in Traktor…

I had analyzed/created about half of my collection for stems.

Then I used MP3 gain to set all of my MP3s to 93 dB and analyzed/created a bunch more stems.

I’m now finding on playback that some stems are way louder when played as stems… I’m guessing the stems I created before using MP3 gain don’t know they are supposed to be quieter!

Open to suggestions, although I think I’ll have to reanalyze all stems…

Word of caution for anyone using MP3gain, although the gain settings are reversible, my stem collection is messed up now…

The stems files are essentially the original audio files broken down into four separate pieces. Changing the gain on your files will require recreating the stems.

Uff…that is A LOT of work for something that takes 5sec to manually adjust when playing a track.

I know, I know, when you’re speed mixing those 5sec mean a lot but still…
