I run MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 due to licensing issues from software I purchased in the past (been using these programs since the early 90s without paying monthly fees if you get what im putting down). There is no way to update to the latest version of Engine DJ to run STEMS. When I bought my 4+ I installed the beta of stems and was using on the 4+ stand alone controller. Is there a way to use the STEMS on the stand alone controller like the beta version or do you HAVE to use Engine DJ?
For the new (non beta) stems you have to use Engine DJ as it uses the PC to render them then transfer to the unit.
It looks like none of the current generation hardware is capable of decoding them directly on the unit so that’s the only way.
Best bet is to create a second volume on your hard drive and install a newer version of OSX on there that will run the latest version of Engine DJ. Either make the volume big enough to house your music collection and the stem files or use an external drive.
I’m probably going to buy another laptop just for music. Another question is if you can drag and drop the STEM files onto my sshd installed on the 4+? I dont sync Engine DJ to add songs to my controller… Thanks for the time and help!
I’m guessing if you use the same database (so it knows the stem file exists) and copy the stems folder to the same location in the Engine Database folder it would in theory work, but the key thing is copying the actual database over.
Would just have to try and see.
Even though Engine might be the first software you run into problems with due to the old age of the laptop. Im afraid soon others will follow.
I have processed stems in a linux pc with wine. I installed the last version of Engine using wine. Then open Engine and conect external ssd with my music library. Engine shows my library and can see my music. After that select tracks to process stems and select create stems. The stems can be accessed when put the ssd on my macbook air (not enough power to process stems, too slowly) and sincronized to Prime 4 +. Prime 4+ recognize stems created this way. The only issue with Engine run on wine this way is than Engine cant see sound card (configured with alsa), and it cant play tracks. Engine Dj just play tracks if is just installed, after close the program, Engine Dj never see the sound card again, and must be reinstalled to be able to play tracks. Hope this be helpfull Regards. P.D. Still working around the problem to find a solution. P.D.2 Sorry for my English. Not my native language.
