The stems files come in at a file size way smaller than the AIFF files they are stemmed from. Are the stems files comprised of 4 MP3 Codec-Similar files? If so, is the stem file only used when Stems are engaged on the players, or are the stems files used in place of the original music file?

To my knowledge:
Correct about the 4x mp3 or mp4.
Stems are only used when 1 to 3 are engaged. With 0 or 4 it will use the AIFF.

I’m assuming there’ll be a little update on the 11th to unlock stems on all other devices yes?
I also assume that the recent release of stems just for the prime 4+ was also a little tester & maybe there’ll be little tweaks here & there in the background with this possible update on the 11th?
