While beatmaching two tracks using HOT cue on Deck 1 and the CUE point on Deck 2, I detected a malfunction (or phps. even more) as follows:
On the right hand, deck 2 is playing, the CUE is fixed and already passed, and I jumped back by using Shift+play (on Deck 2).
Simultaneously I hit the HOT cue on Deck 1 on the left hand, expecting that both tracks will keep on playing.
I can’t believe the result:
Deck 2 kept on playing while jumping back to the CUE (OK)
The HOT Cue on deck 1 had been deleted and nothing more happened.
Believe me, I really was surprised and confused, as I had to fix the HOT cue again, but when repeating the beatmatching the same malfunction occurred again; when changing deck 1 to deck 2 it happend as well.
I don’t think that the shift key from the right side has to effect the functions on the left side and in reverse as well. In my opinion this is a malfunction.
Then I tested this procedure with the LOOP-Pad. The results had been the same. Slicer and Roll I didn’t tested.
Since the two SHIFT buttons always perform the same function (i.e. you can use the deck 2/4 SHIFT button to control deck 1/3), this means that with the combination you have made, you have obtained the command on deck 1 “SHIFT + HOT CUE”, which means “cancel HOT CUE”. So it was canceled.
The same is true if you execute SHIFT + LOOP, which means canceling the loop stored on the PAD button.
It is actually not a malfunction. Perhaps the two SHIFT buttons should be usable only on the deck below it, but then the problem arises when you have to use SHIFT for a command on the mixer that is common to both decks: which shift should we press? The one on the right or the one on the left?
Good morning to you and thanks for your prompt reply.
A solution may be to use a HOT Cue pad instead of the simple CUE button, but it will be difficult, if no more HOT Cue pad is available as all 8 buttons are in use.
I agree
two SHIFT buttons should be usable only on the deck below
and really it will be difficult to decide which Shift button to use, when you have
a command on the mixer that is common to both decks:
I just looked up the gear and the manual and there are some functions, which are initialized by Shift regarding not only one deck (e.g.: Browse Knob, Quantize, Performance View …) In my opinion it doesn’t matter, which Shift Button (left or right) you use for these functions, but for the function described in my first post, left or right is of the essence.
So let’s wait and see, what will happen and what other users will tell and what the meaning of DENON will be.
So I did some testing, it seems fine here. I’ll have to do some further testing just to make sure. I can post a video if needed. Maybe I’m misinterpreting the issue
I’m a little bit surprised that your system will be ok as the procedure will be “normal”, that the Hot Cue will be deleted on Deck 1 when you use the cue and Shift+Play on the other deck simultaneously.
I would like to clarify a point: the Hot cue is not canceled because you press SHIFT + PLAY (of the opposite deck), but it is canceled because you press the HOTCUE button at the same time while you have also pressed SHIFT of the opposite deck. In fact, the “normal” procedure for deleting the hot cue is SHIFT + HOTCUE. In practice, the right SHIFT is not differentiated from the left one.
