It’s been happening since day one for me which has been over 2 years. My library slowly goes corrupt. I thought originally this was my usb drives and after two of them going corrupt constantly I bought an ssd drive and even that is going corrupt.
I have the Denon Prime 4 +
The file system used is the one the system formats it in, exfat.
I use windows if that matters.
Also I am religious with turning off the system correctly and never pulling the drives early or anything of the such.
Does anyone else have this issue? Songs just randomly appearing red in my library, until I take the original file, which is usually an m4a file, and replace it.
So normally on my pc i would buy music through iTunes. Then on my usb I would drag the songs and folder over. Then I would analyze it in engine os, then stems. Then it should be good to go. Shut down the pc and pull the USB after that.
That’s pretty much the workflow. The only added step now is since I am using an ssd through the denon, I put the denon in computer mode.
So you copy your music manually from your PC to your USB storage, then using Engine, drag the folder(s) from your USB drive and then drop them onto Engine?
or do you:
Buy your music
Drag the folders to Engine from your PC’s internal storage, creating playlists
Use Engine’s syncing tool to export playlists (and music) to the USB drive?
I drag my folders from pc to usb. Then in engine dj I find the directory and add the the songs to collection. Then analyze and stem them.
I will take the drive in to get looked at but I may just be unlucky with drives or my pc is causing the issue. It also could be me. Not all the files I thought were corrupt are actually corrupted. Some are just missing so I’m realizing user error is probably happening as well somewhere. Thank you for the assistance. This has made me realize I should learn how to actually back up my music because that is a lot of hours of prep work that almost went to waste because of bad drives.
I would suggest you also revisit your workflow, perhaps document it, and stick to it religiously.
Files that are corrupt don’t show up red because they are corrupt. They show up red because they are missing. Corrupt files are still present files.
Good that you’re thinking of backing up your music now, as many people don’t reach this point until there is a catastrophic condition. Then they blame Engine for all of the things that went wrong and take zero responsibility for ensuring that they have duplicate copies of their music.
I get this happen too. Tracks in my library folder on the macbook just go to 0kb and the filename is replaced with a weird emoji. I’ll take a screenshot next time. Shouldn’t have to wait long, it happens a few times a month.
