Software which one plzz help

Ok sorry to sound thick but I’m at my whit’s end i hate with a passion the library on my installed ssd it catalogues the artis 1st omg i hate it &have fallen out of love with my decks, i just go into the history folder & play from them but there has to be a better way.

What i would like is to have the folders/albums that i can take the tracks from & play arhhhhhh, is there a better software package then engine as this is not good for me, i have rekordbox not tried it yet, this is from old decks i had or is there a Janet & John easy software i can use.

My set up 2 x sc6000 1 with ssd, 1850x mixer

You don’t have to worry about the internal organization of your folders on your storage device when using Engine, because with Engine you work by playlist and not by folder. This allows you to have a track on your storage device only once but to integrate it into multiple different playlists without having to duplicate it. This is how database systems work: each entry is a shortcut to a physical file.

Simply create your playlists in Engine and then export them to your storage device from Engine. Once on your device, go to the playlist section in the left menu and find all your playlists.

It sounds like you’re trying to access your music using the folder option.

You need to build up your library on the desktop app by creating playlists and adding music to them, then in Engine OS you will be able to see all your music organised in playlists.

Here is a detailed video of getting started with Engine. Rekordbox wont be any better as the workflow is largely the same.

Thank you, ill have a look, i like to play on the fly

You still can, but you need to do some up front organisation of your music in order to get the best out of DJ software, this is the same for all software on both laptops and built in OS, but moreso with built in.

Hi :woman_raising_hand:t2:

I have the same setup. Create a playlist for each album in Engine DJ, then later select the tracks from there. It doesn’t matter how your folders are organised on the SSD, you can create playlist for anything: styles, record labels, selections for past and future sets, year, and albums. You can have playlists of playlists, for example a playlist called Psytrance and in there playlists by label, and those contain playlists for each release or album … and beyond that, you can create additional playlists from the same collection of tracks. Try it, it opens way more possibilities than plain folders.

Hi thanks for all your reply’s,

can i have the engine dj on a external hd with main of my music on & use it on my pc then unplug it & plug it in the laptop?

Hi, yes you can do that, just make sure its connected before opening Engine, that way they’ll all be visible in the app.

If you’re moving the music from your laptop to the drive and you’ve already added them to Engine its going to show them as missing and you’ll have to relocate them.

Also make sure you arent using that drive in your Prime, you need a different one altogether installed in there.

So Drive with music on <> Laptop with Engine Desktop <> Drive with engine analysed music collection installed in the Prime unit.

However, make sure not to move your music after importing it into Engine, because as explained above, the entries in Engine are only shortcuts pointing to a path where the file was located at the time of its import.

So moving audio files afterward would result in a whole bunch of red entries in Engine indicating that the target file is no longer found.

Hi,

yes, this is exactly what I do. I have my main library and all music files on an external SSD drive (plus backup drives). When I add new music and analyse tracks, I use Engine DJ on a laptop with the SSD connected. I can connect the same SSD to the SC Live 4 or the SC-6000M via USB and simply have all my music there, no Sync etc necessary … so cool! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

On my Windows laptop I can connect the drive when Engine DJ is already running, no problem. On the players it is the same. Just make sure that you always eject the SSD or drive properly from the computer (in Engine DJ this can be done in the drives menu) and the players before disconnecting the drive to prevent database corruption. And always have a backup.

Well I disagree because I want to be able to play from internal folders when I can’t use my Engine database for any reason (broken database.. or broken equipment replaced by another brand for example) So I encourage a good folder structure for continuity and flexibility

I must admit i would prefer to just just my folders but if i have to use engine on the laptop then i do i suppose :man_shrugging:

This is how ive done it on mine, each folder is mirrored as a playlist on my software, so im essentially still using folders just how the DJ companies intended.

Done it the same way with my collection - really this is the best way to do it (unless there is a need to move a song / bunch of songs to a different playlist)

Try Virtual DJ, its free very solid folder structure use virtual folders to sort
