Software freeze

Hi everyone, since version 4 of Engine PC I have a problem when I edit cues or loops the software freezes and sometimes I’m forced to force it to close. I have a Windows 11 with i7 10th gen processor, 64GB of RAM and 2 2TB SSDs. Has anyone else had the same problem as me? if it was solved and how? I installed the software from offline files. if I downgrade to version 3.4 the problem doesn’t exist. I was hoping to upgrade to 4.01 but nothing has changed. thanks in advance fabio

Hi Fabio,

you are not alone, freezes have been observed and reported by many users since the version 4 update. The Denon DJ team is aware of the problem. I too hoped that the last update would improve this, but maybe we have to wait for another update …

Sometimes, when I rename cues or change their colour, Engine DJ freezes for quite some time, but I just wait and eventually the program becomes responsive again. I did not downgrade to 3.4. I hope it will be fixed in one of the next updates. :slightly_smiling_face: :four_leaf_clover:

Go into Power Saving and set processor throttle to 100% min and max. Start command powercfg , change plan settings, change plan settings, change advanced Power Settings, Processor Power Management.

Also, you can change the application priority using a variation of the command line C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start “App Title Name” /high “C:\Program Files\folder\folder\name.exe”

This stops it going into a power save state and keeps always in the highest priority.

Thanks for your advice, I did what you said, but the problem persists. It seems to me more like a program cache problem, the first two or three changes are ok, but after several minutes of the software working, if you want to modify cues or loops the software freezes thanks again my friend

thank you for your answer, i hope too

Have you tried emptying the %tmp% folders?

Start command %tmp% select all, hold shift + delete NOTE: Any files currently in use will not be able to be deleted.

Also, change / check the virtual memory settings Start command sysdm.cpl Advanced, performance settings, advanced, virtual memory change, select custom size, put the number “recommended”, into initial and maximum on your fastest drive, normally C:, then press set. Close the windows and reboot.

Lastly at shutdown, make sure the machine is actually shutting down and not doing fast boot. Add a new shortcut with C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00 -f use this to shutdown rather than the button or system shutdown.

Let me know, if any of that makes it better.

Same problem here. MaBook Pro, M1 chip, 16 Gb RAM. Engine 4.0.1.

Any set I prep, after editing 1-2 cue points I get a freeze and the “beachball”. It’s hard to prepare any of weekly DJ sets like this. This happened since upgrades around Summer. A reboot of the computer fixes temporarily the issue, but I rarely reboot my computer these days. I suspect it must be some sort of memory problem with Engine after computer goes to sleep maybe.

Hopefully there will be a fix soon, any luck with the newest update from 4.1? I am reluctant to do any updates at this point until this is fixed.

just updated to 4.1 it fixes this issue for me. Thank you thank you thank you, that was a real annoying bug, made Engine almost unusable. so glad that got addressed finally, crucial for dj set prep.
