I tag all my songs with genres, Pop, Pop Dance, Dance Classics, House, Trance etc…
Say I want to have a Smartlist to display just the songs from 2000-2009 and I only want to include Genres Pop, Pop Dance, Dance Classics and Rock. In the Smartlist rules I have done the following:
You have “Match all of the rules” ticked, therefore the playlist will only display tracks that match that year range and are set to all three genres at the same time.
A workaround would be to set up three separate smart playlists, each filtering based on a single genre and the date range.
The purpose of this procedure is, to get a strong selection for matching tracks.
Question:
Is here in the forum a workaround, which describes
how to filter the collection (via search and / or smartlist)
—> getting a list (storeable as playlist / temporary file / list),
and how to select this temporay file / list with further criterions?
—> a list with perfect matching tracks
phps. repeating the procedure to get more precision?
Last night I tried this with ENGINE DJ and failed badly.
It is impossible to filter the created playlist a further time. As I tried, all tracks of my collection have been shown again. The previous selection has been discarded, and I assume that this procedure doesn’t work properly or I’m too stupid to handle this procedure.
If not already available, I think about creating a feature request (Engine DJ and Engine OS).
Any advise (especially if this issue is well known or if there is a workaround here in the formum) is highly appreciated and many thanks in advance
I was curious myself and tried the Smart list option myself to see if I could condense all Rock and Pop Genre’s into a smart list that was from 2000 - 2009. If I untick the “Match all Rules” box - I will get a complete list of all songs with Either Rock or Pop - But outside of the main Rule - The one defining the Year Rule. So naturally it will desplay logically as follows…
All songs within a range = 2000-2009
OR
Genre Equal to Rock
OR
Genre Equal to Pop
This outputs a lot of a mess. And will include all songs from 2000-2009, then songs outside of this range showing Pop, then song’s showing Rock. Not what we want.
If the box is ticked it will work as
All songs within a range = 2000-2009
AND
Genre Equal to Rock
AND
Genre Equal to Pop
Which will display no results. Because it’s looking for ROCK and POP in the genre section for each song between 2000-2009.
In short. At this moment there is no easy way to create a single “Smart list” that will satisfy the condition that is wanted logically as below.
All songs within a range = 2000-2009
AND
Genre Equal to Rock OR Genre Equal to Pop
The only work around if you are really desperate at this time to get separate smart list’s for each Genre - So 2000’s Rock, then a 2000’s Pop, etc. Which might cloud up the selection screen but at least the tracks will be easier to digest when browsing.
Counter intuitively, if you REALLY want a list combining all the Genre’s you want in 1 list. you could use the Does Not Contain option in Genre, and run through a list of them with the stuff you don’t want shown….
The problem is that imo it’s impossible to filter a list, which is based on a smartlist and already stored as an individual playlist to filter it a further time again.
Then a plenty of tracks are appearing (e.g. 626 of 9).
I think, the result of the first selection is not stored as a playlist, which only contains the result, but handled invisible the collection selected by the new criterion in the background, and this is shown …
And this is really strange for me.
Thanks a lot for your attention and brgds BeatMaster
I think in Engine OS devices, there is an option to show all subplaylist tracks when the PLAYLIST FOLDER is selected. I am not able to confirm that now as im not near a engine device. I dont think i have tested with just smartlists.
