Should waveforms stutter on playback when using Windows 11 for track analysis (new user)

New user here. I have installed v4.3.4 on my desktop pc (Win 11, i5-8th gen, 32GB RAM) - when I import music files to analyse then play back (from USB 3, SSD, internal HDD and Sandisk SD) the waveform stutters when playing the file.

It doesn’t affect the audio, but for me, it is damn annoying.

I also have installed Serato & Virtual DJ and there appear to be no such issues there.

I am potentially a new DJ considering purchasing an SC Live 4 and just wanted to get a handle on how the software behaves before making the jump.

Is this expected behaviour, or is it some hardware/graphics card issue?

Welcome to the forum.

The desktop software is not the device software. They look similar but have different goals.

I will say that waveform stuttering happens both on desktop and device, and if that bothers you, then this platform may not be for you.

I’ve heard that other media players (pioneer/alpha theater) have their own on-device quirks.

Best of luck finding what works for you.

I don’t notice any stutter on the desktop software 4.2 win 11 i3 10th gen potato & I just literally finished a 2hr mix on my mixstream pro go also 4.2 without a single hickup.

My tunes are stored on my laptop & exported to my sd card (sandisk).

I am using a laptop with win 11, i7, 32gb ram, Geforce rtx 4060.

I have never had any stutter in the engine desktop when im prepping.

But on my prime 4+ i have experienced it many times

Cdj3000x stutters the waveform too… just had another spin last weekend on these. Compared to cdj2000 nexus x is stuttering almost the same.

No way. That’s the club standard.

I’m a DJ using Engine DJ but I’m also in IT

I have experienced this stuttering too. What I usually do is reduce the size of the Engine DJ window in my monitor.

Don’t have it at the maximum window size (drag it smaller) and you’ll see it immediately smooths the waveforms and stops the stuttering.

Running Engine DJ on a monitor / laptop at high resolution, often means EDJ struggles to keep up. I believe it was designed with a maximum resolution in mind. Maybe yours is set too high.

Hope that helps?

Thanks for your response.

OK, that is interesting. I am going to try it on my laptop to see if it is an issue on that too

Interesting points. I am willing to try all options.
