Love Stems. and the 10€ extra price tag is not too high.
HOWEVER the devices cost 1 000 €+ i belive it would be ok to just gift it to the denon community.
The ISSUE i had, was when playing a gig. The ScLive4 provided did not have Stems unlocked.
I had some great on the fly acapella prepaired for the set and i was MAD i couldn’t use it.
Like why go through all of this hassle to make a few extra bucks, when it can ■■■■ a dj during a live performance? I hold denon high for being more innovative than Pioneer. But dam all of that hassle for 0,83% more profit?
Hey - Thanks for the post. You can unlock up to 4 devices on one stem licence. You have to log into your engine account on the device and then it will ask to reboot. Stems should then be enabled.
If it helps with therapy etc then think of it as your 2000 buck purchase actually cost you 2010.
It probably cost you more than 10 bucks to get to the shop, or pay postage and packaging to get your Prime.
Indeed, pro-rata.. add up the cost of electricity to charge or power whatever device you made the above post on, power to run your home wifi router, part of the monthly cost of your airtime or home broadband provider, wear and tear on your device that you access the forum from and that mini-rant-ette about 10 bucks probably cost you a fiftieth of a buck too.
Consider too… that at decent wedding DJ rates, you’ll earn the “cost” of stems in less than the time it takes you to play one track… stemed or not.
But… it feels good to get it off your chest huh? Dunnit?
Only point of legitimate criticism can be the server-backed procedure, though I can only speak about Akai. I had situations where my OPX4 plugin on my Force had (temporary) re-activation issues, though this was a while ago. It’s only my hobby device, but I wouldn’t be happy if this had happened during a gig. However, once you ‘paired’ your EngineDJ account with your SC Live 4, it should work 100% fine, even with no Wifi connection.
And yeah, $10 is a bargain. I posted a long-term review / throwback about the Prime 4 a few days ago, where I also emphasized the extraordinary long software support we get. The SC5000 decks are reaching their first decade milestone and still work fine on the current Engine DJ version, that’s anything but a given for the rest of the market. The expensive XDJ-XZ got a few bugfixes and Flac support as only ‘feature’ update.
My gripe is not the issue with the price. It’s super reasonable and well worth 100%.
The scLive4 was provided. And i wasn’t playing on my own equipment.
The scenario:
You arive at a gig someone is already playing on the equipment → ■■■■■■
You dont have a internet connection → ■■■■■■
You have no idea what your login is because you don’t usually need it → ■■■■■■
and 5 minutes before a gig i won’t be fumbling with this.
I can somewhat understand it on the hobby grade gear but even the sc6000 have this license ■■■■■■■■? come on!
Its also not like the investment was in vain. more features → more marketshare → recoup that cost in extra sales down the road.
There is definitely an opportunity here, and that is where a QR code generated by the device that is scanned by a phone for authentication. This could speed up log in significantly. Streaming services use this model on TVs all the time.
Due to the amount of swearing and blocked out words, your point, if there was one, has really lost all traction
Try again, or not, with a more structured and civil viewpoint

You have no idea what your login is because you don’t usually need it

If you struggle with such things, you could consider using the Notes/notepad app on your phone to store the password.
Or, let’s face it, your stems password could be set by you to be something so easy that it’s impossible to forget, as it doesn’t need to be high security uppercase, lowercase, 20 characters including 5 special characters, as it’s a non-financial service.
I don’t mind the extra ten bucks. I’d an extra 20 bucks and was on par with Traktor, Serato, and VirtualDJ, though. With them being pre-computed, it’s odd that there hasn’t been much of an improvement in analysis and separation since launch.
