Surprising move or not? My prediction and the opinion of others is that the perpetual Serato license for Denon equipment will turn into a monthly subscription… I think it’s time for Denon equipment users to have the possibility to choose which software to control the decks with. I think Traktor is the best option, but there may be others. So, Denon team, are you doing something about this??. I’m from the European Union, and a “revolution” is being prepared here: any hardware user has the right to choose what software they use… and this thing may extend to the whole world. I will use (because I have them) all the necessary leverage at the European Commission and the European Parliament to expedite and implement these common-sense ideas. I come back: Is Denon doing something in this sense to prevent a lock-up?? Other opinions ??
Rather long discussion on it all here: Lord have mercy - Serato acquired by AlphaTheta Corporation - #407 by PKtheDJ
False! New Zealand rejected AlphaTheta/Pioneer DJ’s takeover offer!
This has been communicated (see link below), but as it was announced on April 1st… It should be taken with a pinch of salt!

After Denon’s primary goal with their Stand Alone Prime products was to no longer use these players with a PC or Mac with performance software, this option is more of a bonus to make a transition from performance software to standalone mode. If Denon wanted users to still use computers, then they would have continued to sell DJ controllers like the MC6000 or 7000 in Mk3/Mk2 version.
The acquisition by Tiny company was announced before 1’st of April. Just it gone more public on 1’st.
Ladies and Gentlemen, here is Internet misinformation at its finest.
There needs to be a R.T.F.M for news reports.
Some interesting actual information though, is that Serato and Roland have teamed up to bring together the SP-404 MK2 sampler and Serato software.
The SP-404 MK2 can now work as a MIDI controller and audio interface for Serato DJ and Studio.
Yeap! I have already started to use it after firmware upgrade to 5.0 on SP404MKII, but…it’s a mobile solution to mix on the fly. You can do it better and also mobile using X1+Z1 from Traktor.
That is correct. Tiny is the buyer.
This one where you can blame Canada for buying Serato being a good thing LOL
In this world, nothing is for free, even Denon DJ standallone. The price is included in the hardware acquisition for sure. If they want to improve this, ok. But comparing to “performance software”, it’s a little far away.
Totally agree with you DjMell26…
My comment on this topic:
It is wrong and sick to think that human rights include the right to use any software with any hardware. This is the sick idea of the author of this thread. The European Commission has no plans to do anything like this and the EU parliament would never vote for this nonsense. It is confirmed from multiple credible sources that 66% of Serato, was bought by an investment company from Canada.
