It’s been a long time since the last update for the SC Live 4/2. Many users continue to complain about the performance of these controllers and the P4. In the meantime, new devices with new Engine DJ have been released. Is the SC Live series now considered obsolete? Should I consider selling my equipment since there’s no prospect of improved stability?
No it’s not obsolete, and no don’t sell it because a new firmware update is coming, like new firmware updates have come on every single other release InMusic have ever done.
Owning a Prime 4 and Live 4 myself, all I can tell you (and all other recent guys here who regarded their devices as abandonware):
Don’t. Just have some patience.
Wow … a few months go past with the team working on a big firmware update rather than dribbling out a few minor updates and people think their model has been forgotten about. Lol
However the company also haven’t said specifically that they will so of course it’s open to interpretation.
Yes they have, I’ve linked the post from Mike (InMusic staff member) at least 10 times now on this kind of thread, yet people still keep creating new ones asking the same questions over and over (instead of just reading the existing topics that cover it).
He specifically states that existing hardware is not dead and that some of the features introduced on the system one will be ported over to older devices.
Given the fact InMusic have asked for people to apply to the beta testing team, we can safely assume that there will be people here who have far more knowledge about this than what is publicly available information. However those people are also likely to be bound by a none disclosure agreement (NDA) and risk losing their place on the beta program if they break that agreement.
So far there has been a leak on Facebook (that’s probably been removed now) showing at least one of those features, proving that work is being done, albeit not something I guess InMusic want happening.
We also know about the aforementioned performance issues, and because people like yourself and others have reported it on here and elsewhere, InMusic will be acutely aware of this and I would guess actively working on it. The trouble is this kind of bug can often go deep into the firmware and be difficult to solve.
What if testing is being done and bugs are still being found? Would we prefer them to just say sod it and release the buggy firmware or hold back and continue testing and fixing until it’s stable again? …. Can you imagine the outcry if they did the former.
Honestly these threads are getting a bit monotonous now, all the info can easily be found without scrolling too far down the forum feed, the forum doesn’t need this endless stream of new ones being created over and over.
I apologize if I’ve offended the Engine DJ team, but all of this is due to the lack of any official statements from the service provider. This applies both to estimated release dates for new updates and to any confirmation that the reported issues exist and that work is underway to fix them. Unfortunately, I handle a lot of gigs using SC Live 4, and there isn’t a single event where I don’t stress that the equipment will let me down. I’m eagerly awaiting the day when working with the controller will be smooth and completely reliable.
I fully understand the officials’ position, but communication with users could be clearer.
I’m eagerly awaiting the new update, which will completely change my opinion about the reliability of Denon equipment.
Here is the official statement from InMusic.
At least with the competition you exactly know when your device is obsolete. ![]()
My P4 is still up-to-date; no competing device can beat it. The closest would be the AZ, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So even if it stays as it is, which it won’t, it’ll still be better than the rest. I wouldn’t trade it for anything (and if I had to, it would be for the Rane).
Yes, it’s the moment you purchase it ![]()
I like my sc live 4 its my main device to play out with
The thing is … what sort of clear communication would you expect … baring in mind that any “clearer” communication with owners/users regarding upcoming models, upcoming features, upcoming firmware … is also “clearer” communication with pioneer / Alf-are-faulty.
And this is a key consideration, because even though pioneer won’t be able to read a communication from the Engine forum and get a whole new rivalling competing model onto shelves at such short notice, it would give them time to seed social media with negative comments about why pioneer haven’t stooped so low as to add that new feature on their models
Pioneer are also known to regularly “reward” dealers for talking more about pioneer on their social media and store landing pages than talking about Denon DJ - effectively telling dealers that if they want to be considered for stock on the difficult to get hold of pioneer stock, they shouldn’t mention the new denon feature on their site or socials.
Information or “clear” communication leaked ahead of a hardware, or firmware launch would give rival companies the time and opportunity to manipulate the market in such ways
