Is anyone aware of a way to reset the counter on Ableton link? Scenario - I am playing 2 tracks and start to mix out on beat 3 so now my new down beat is beat 3 which means all of my connected devices are out by 2 beats so when I hit play on an external device it does not kick in until beat 3 (formerly beat 1!) Ideally I want a way to tell link that I have a new downbeat! Any ideas before I go to a feature request?
wait and start the track on 1 beat… actually for this purpose the ableton link bit counter is shown on the screen
Part of the problem is that some tracks don’t follow a perfect 4/4 and so the beat may start again (new phrase) on the 3 so everything starting from 1 gets changed when you get past that point!
i agree, there are tracks where the phrase does not start with beat 1, but i prefer not to use such tracks when playing in 4 channels or use loops or hot cues to return the track to beat 1 when using Ableton Link and other external devices
You’ll laugh at this probably - I got Traktor to join the same Link session and then mapped a control to the Master Clock → Ableton Link → Reset Downbeat controller mapping in Traktor and triggered it … and it resets the counter over on Engine OS.
Far from being elegant of course, but at least it proves a point that Engine OS does seem to cope with a message on the link wire to reset the downbeat. It would be great if there were a way to do it from within Engine when needed!
Oooh - good find! Thanks for sharing!
