I’ve been using the Denon DJ Prime GO+, and I love the portability and standalone capabilities. However, one thing I miss from my previous DJ setup is the ability to display my screen externally. When I used a controller with a laptop, I could mirror the display, allowing the audience (or even myself) to see what I was doing in real time—track selections, effects, and performance changes. This was great for engagement, especially during live events where people could see that I was actively mixing rather than playing a pre-recorded set.
Since the Prime GO+ doesn’t have a built-in HDMI output, I was wondering if there is any possible way to send its display or track info to an external screen. I’m open to creative solutions, such as using a Raspberry Pi or other methods to extract data.
Possible Workarounds I’m Considering:
USB Output to a Raspberry Pi
Connecting the Prime GO+ to a Raspberry Pi via USB.
Extracting MIDI or performance data and displaying it on an external monitor.
Would require some scripting, but could be a great DIY solution if the device sends useful data.
Network Data via Engine Lightning or OSC
If Engine OS allows sending performance info via the network, maybe this could be captured and displayed elsewhere.
Could it be possible to extract BPM, track names, or other info through an external script?
Hidden/Unsupported Video Output?
Some Linux-based standalone DJ systems have hidden debugging ports or SSH access.
Has anyone explored if the Prime GO+ has a way to mirror its display externally?
Reverse Concept: If Virtual DJ Can Send Video to Denon, Can Denon Send Info to a Screen?
In Virtual DJ, it’s possible to send video clips to Denon hardware.
Would it be possible to do the reverse, even if it’s something very simple?
For example, just showing track info, waveform data, or active effects on an external monitor.
I’m really hoping to find a way to display real-time mixing data so that the audience (or even myself) can have better visibility. If anyone has any insights, hacks, or potential feature requests for Denon DJ, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I totally get your points! I’ve been DJing for many years using Pioneer gear and software on a laptop, so I’m very familiar with the workflow of running everything through a computer and mirroring the display. However, one of the reasons I switched to Prime GO+ is to avoid carrying a laptop, charger, launching software, and dealing with potential crashes or latency issues. Having everything in a standalone unit makes things so much simpler and more reliable.
That being said, I really miss being able to project my session onto a screen. It adds a layer of engagement for the audience and allows them to see that I’m actually performing live, adjusting effects, and mixing in real time.
I do think that using a small camera to capture the Prime GO+ screen is a viable option, and I’m actually considering it! But at the same time, I love exploring new possibilities and creative solutions to enhance my setup. If there’s a way to extract some kind of screen data, waveform visualization, or basic track info, even in a simple format, I think it could open up interesting opportunities for both DJs and audiences.
So, while I appreciate the existing workarounds, I’ll keep researching and experimenting—and if I find a cool solution, I’ll be sure to share it here!
Thanks again for your input, really appreciate the discussion!
