What happens when you use the platters and faders on Engine gear, that makes it different to the videos you posted?
Genuine question as this isnt something ive ever looked into using on my equipment.

Same here. And to be fair I made the switch from Traktor to EngineDJ. I dont have a Pioneer-background (apart from the CMX5000, if you know you know) . All effects on the Engine exosystem âfeelâ the same in basic operations compared to Traktor. That why Im so interested!
The platters, faders and BPM slider have no effect on Engines Trans effect.
The effects on engine are tied to the beatgrid. If you change the pitch slider, the effect will match.
I have just tried Flex Gate with the faders, platter and pitch slider.
None of them change the effect.
Try to change the pitch of the leading channel. That one will determine the tempo. How does the fader affect the trans effect with Pioneer?
Iâll try to clear up any doubts.
What our friend says is true, that the TRANS is not the same as the GATE, in a way, but itâs for several reasons.
The Gate has several patterns, the straight pattern being the one that most resembles the Pioneer one, although in the video you can compare the tests with all of them; itâs a matter of taste. (Video 1)
Pioneer doesnât have patterns, so since it only has one model, the TRANS (a plus for Denon, hehe) works the same as the âstraight pattern.â
The difference our friend mentions is that when you scratch or backspin, it stays synced in rekordbox, but not in Engine.
This is only because Rekordbox has a feature enabled by default called BEAT SYNC (you can see it in video 2).
If you disable this feature, the beat gets out of sync, and so does the trans effect (which is why it sounds off-beat when you make a lot of changes from 1 to 1/2 to 1/4 to 1/8 and then play with the timing again, just like on the Denon).
On the Denon, to achieve the same effect, you have to use the SYNC + SLIP MODE function, and you get the same result as with TRANS mode and BEAT SYNC enabled.
At first, itâs hard to understand what heâs trying to explain, but I knew exactly what he was talking about. There are many tutorial videos of DJs using this effect, and he wanted to do something similar but couldnât. The secret is, in the loop where youâre going to gate, activate SLIP mode and both SYNC modes if you want to vary the speed simultaneously, especially on the track where youâre not using the effect.
If you only want to create the effect, activating SLIP mode on that track, when the songs are synchronized, is enough.
When you try it, youâll see itâs exactly the same, or even better, since Denon offers different patterns to practice and develop your creativity. Good luck with your tests and keep practicing!
If you combine it with the NOISE effect, itâs even better. Youâll see that it doesnât get out of sync and sounds just like our friend mentioned.
Note: This is best applied to a vocal loop or basic melody; it sounds great.
You donât need to know how to scratch to make it sound almost like you know how to do it haha
Good job on trying to replicate it and as someone said it is personal choice. For me the Engine Flex Gate is terrible like all the effects.
Your song is playing and on top of that you are just making noise with the platter.
You arenât actually blending or cutting the track with the effect.
This guy cuts and blends using Trans with the faders and platter at 5:58 mins.
Warning: Some profanity in the video.
The video is very funny and the DJ has very good scratching techniques.
The video is 15 years old, and the DJ uses a DJM-500, which, surprisingly, didnât have a trans effect!!!
At the minute you mention, a speaker appears speaking.
But anyway, Iâve watched the video and I donât see any trans effects, just a DJ skilled at crossfader cuts and scratching at a time when trans was done that way, old-school, just as flangers were made with two identical vinyl records playing at the same timeâŚ
(Thatâs what I said, if you combine it with noise, it sounds better)
Youâre actually looking at the wrong track.
Anyway, I understand if all the effects seem terrible to you; you always have the option to fix it.
The video was only trying to show you how trans should be and how it is completely different in Engine (How it can not be manipulated with faders and the video you posted with platters sounds terrible). Good job on trying again though.
I am not even asking for a Trans effect or any. I am quite happy with Engine as it is. Op is the one wanting the effect.
I was going to say, that nightclub was knocked down about 10yrs ago, donât ask me how I know
In my opinion i just tried what you said and it worked. But i think they could still improve it more. I donât expect them to make it 100% identical to Rekordbox but at least make the FX sound a bit better. Donât get me wrong the FX is good and i am not hatting on it anymore but they should make it sound a bit better.
Iâm glad you tried it, everything can be improved, I agree, for example, what I would most like to see is a PITCH Up/down effect, tactile would be great, or at least the PITCH down (which I love) that also had a PITCH UpâŚ
More beats on the roll effect too, at least bring 4 back so we can use it as a loop
Are we allowed to call anything âTransâ ?
Or will we have to pick an alternative name, in the same way that Master / Slave became Lead / Follow ?
I donât think the Autobots and Decepticons mind
