Rane System One Resetting!

I have experienced a major issue twice in the past week at live events. The System One powered off approximately 4.5 hours into a DJ set last Sunday And did the same just over 3 hours into the set. This needs to be addressed as soon as possible. I was only searching the database for a track when it happend the CPU should not have been under any heavy load. I was connected to Tidal and also an External SSD (2tb SanDisk extreme).

Haven’t heard of this happening to anyone else so may be some sort of hardware fault. Raise a support ticket ASAP and they’ll probably ask you to send device logs.

I will raise a ticket just now thankyou. -EDIT -I have been advised to run some long tests and report back before sending any logs to escalate the issue. It has only happened at the same venue so hopefully it is an issue with he power outlet and not my unit.

If not power supply try to switch external device. Had a dj go thru a restart and it was the external

What was the temp of where you were playing?

Hello thanks for your reply, but dont understand what you mean.

The venue temperature is not an issue I have been working there for 3+ years. It is a good consideration to make tho. I am almost certain the venue electrics are causing problems at this stage as the manager tonight tells me there are issues with amps and speakers as well. I will report back after testing my the unit some more. I have used it at other venues with no issues.

If a fan inside the unit has gone bad, the unit might be overheating. I have experience (with other hardware) in this happening, so that’s what I asked. Good luck either way!

I will look out for this. Thankyou.

i have Rane System One more than 3 weeks. I played 6 events on it without any issues. I use 4 sources simultaneously (Internal 500GB (SSD Sandisk), + SDXC card 256GB (Samsung), + Tidal streaming + USBC plugged external SSD drive 500GB (Sandisk) + USB2A flash disc 128GB (Sandisk) and plugged Soundswitch Control One on USB3A port. I have not encountered the problem you mention.

Mine has no problem.

May be due to external ssd or power ac, how was connected the unit ? Multisocket… ground issue ?

I haven’t experienced the issue again so for so good but I haven’t been able to test for long enough. I’m almost certain it is the fault of the venues power supply cables they are a mess.

Upon further inspection of the DJ box they supply the power with a cheap extension. I have only experienced the issue at this venue. I am looking at buying this item to help with the power supply situation. Has anyone tried this or a similar item?

I use surge protected extensions at all my gigs. Make sure it is plugged directly in to a wall socket.

I’ve been using my System One quite a bit since I got it and it’s never reset on me.

I left the system-one running for 24 hours…nil glitches or slowing down.

all I had to do was connect it to serato and not wait 24 hours for “hardware failure”

Ran Serato for 3 hours last night, with no problems. Curious, did you use the pretty blue USB C Cable that came with the unit?

Here is the latest news. I played an event today 12-2.45pm unit had no problems. I then set it up for another event in another room at the same venue the event runs 3-8pm unit cut off sound about 7.20pm. Platters were still spinning screen was blank. I held in the power button and the unit reset itself and functioned properly until the end of the event at 8pm. The venue has Pioneers installed so no not deal bit still very concerning. It was only playing a track from Tidal when it shut off. No buttons, faders or track searching going on. I’m not sure if the fan is operational as it is a very loud environment. The unit didn’t feel hot underneath or on the back. I have just updated to the latest firmware and will test the unit further, hopefully during the week of I get time. This was a different venue from where it last happend so it’s not power issues.

Sounds like you have a faulty unit. You should contact your retailer and ask for a replacement to be sent out.

This is an excellent extension lead pictured above, as it conditions

“Surge protected” sound lovely and can be good for some devices - but there’s a danger in using “surge protected” extensions with pro audio gear…

Here’s a bit of background… a fuse will protect the gear (and the user) from excess -Current- … the Amps eg: 13 amp fuse.

A surge protected extension lead will instead protect the gear from excess -Voltage- … surge protection circuits divert excess voltage away from the Live input of your gear.

But where does a surge protect circuit or device divert that excess voltage to? The Earth lead … audio uses that Earth lead in its connectors. So surge protection cables might protect gear from one type of damage, but could be the cause of other types of damage.
