Hey all,
A quick question, I’ve chnged my setup (moved house) and am looking for a new amp(s) to play my P4 through…
The amps I’m considering are a pair of these:
As these amps are pure power amps (no volume controls), would this pairing work?
Thanks all in advance, I’ve only ever used RCA out to a pre/power amp set up before, so that had independent colume control - just wondering if XLR out direct to these is going to work?
Yes it will work - the Prime 4 has a master volume control. What you’re doing is effectively the same as driving powered speakers. You control the volume from the Prime 4.
Great, thanks for your reply - I guess it means the master level meters will become a bit redundant as I imagine they will always be pretty low as the volume (by the master control) is likely to be set pretty low as I’m home-based (I do crank it up sometimes though!)
My advice would be to get your DJ console around unity (0db) then control the overall output with the amp volume by and large. That guarantees you’re sending the best sound to the amp then.
You may need to tweak this though, I’ve moved mine to -3db at home as it sounded nicer.
I guess that’s the issue with the proposed set up though - ther is no volume control on the amps I’m looking at, they are pure power amps with no volume adjust…
Thats a really interesting solution… might have to look into this. I like that it needs no power supply and (says) it doesn’t affect the sound quality…
Ahhh ok sorry, so at my recent gig (that I’ve just quit) I would have barely any lights on the master early doors, only later on when it got busy did it ramp up. I never had control of the house system so it was all on me and the DJ unit.
As long as you have your channel meters doing their thing you will be ok, you need those for setting the trim correctly obviously.
