Prime GO - Stuttering Wave Forms OS 3.1.0, 3.1.1 and also 2.2.2

Tried different OS because the annoying stuttering of the displayed waveforms. I’ve read loads of other posts and 2.2.2 seemed to be stable accordingly to other users.

And after a brief test it seems more stable, stuttered in the first seconds when starting “Jansons - Boxed” track, though. Waveform flickers some in the edges in 2.2.2, but it’s more acceptable than the stuttering in later OS.

Oh no, before going to post this I tried again and there is stuttering in this version too(six times “randomly” out of 32bars). Have they put bad parts in this unit, due to scarcity of parts during the pandemic?

And, back to 3.1.0: two stutters out on the first 32bars, and one more out of the following 32bars, without touching anything, “Boxed” track. Thirteen stutters out of the whole track, Deck 2 this time. Fourteen stutters out of the whole demo track Ansia, Deck 1.

I appreciate, first of all, aside from the nice feel and looks of the hardware and sound, the FX with EQ range in those latest OS(and those last firmware updates was a great deal of my decision to make a purchase) and don’t want to part with that. [And now when writing, it seems no worse with those later releases. Anyway, I wanted to tell you about what I like also.]

I’m both auditory AND visual(primarily) oriented so it’s very important to have the visual representation in order too, and I think the price demands it, it’s nothing pro(or even consumer standard) with stuttering waveforms.

Now, I have already traded some features for the sake of having a small standalone unit when chosing the Prime GO, however the stuttering problem was not calculated for, and if the issue will not be addressed I think I will sadly look for somehing else.

Summary:

Is it possible to make stutterfree OS, or is this issue hardware limitations of Prime GO?

Can we see an update in the near future, or is the Prime GO soon an abandoned product?

Please, Denon, reply to my questions!

FYI: Just playing those .m4a demo tracks, no Wifi, nothing connected except master out, and the main power. And the usual factory resets, and cycled reboots(2.2.2 has no factory reset only reset to default). Also, Send Anonymous Statistics is disabled, is it this working hard to phone home despite being disabled? All Services disabled. Well ventilated indoor area, no heat noticed.

[Edit: changed some words]

The Prime Go isn’t dropped so no worries there.

The waveform rendering is now drawn live. Previously the waveform was stored within the database and it made it very big.

The performance isn’t affected but there is the odd visual glitch since V3.0 which shouldn’t affect the audio. Denon DJ are aware and maybe they’ll be a fix upcoming one day.

It’s a waveform drawing issue and is visual only. There a lot of untapped power in all these units (enough to run live vocal separation stems) so I wouldn’t worry anything is being push to its limits.

Hopefully a fix may come out but it’s not affecting my mixing so I never fuss over it.

Thanks, good to hear it’s not dropped!

Still what worries me is that it stuttered even with the said stable version 2.2.2, can you or anyone else confirm that I don’t got a poor unit, regarding my findings(more than ten wave form stutters when playing a whole track) in the the first post?

I get a little visual glitch. It looks like a momentary pause in the unit drawing the waveform but if you’re experiencing a true stutter and visual craziness then I’d definitely open a support ticket. One option is to factory reset the unit but remember any passwords for WiFi and streaming login details.

I think I get one every minute or so but I don’t spend too much time looking at my waveforms. I’ll have a look later. From memory it’s from the time when they switched to live waveform drawing.

For reference I have a Prime Go, Prime 4 and a pair of SC5000Ms. Each one has a little visual glitch but there is no audio glitch.

I see the stutter as well periodically. It has been this way for a long time. Maybe more since the waveform is drawn in parts since 2.0 ? (don’t know exactly). Audio is fine, so no worries for me.

(The competition draws the waveform at 10 fps or less, so kinda funny that the “Pioneer has blabla” isn’t stated here.)

Seems it echos this another thread. Maybe a thread merge? Jumps on the Prime 4's screen - #37 by DjMarcoMarco

I agree, but merging makes it one big mess… I’ll leave them both as active topics. It’s on all EngineOS devices imo. I see it on the SC6000’s btw.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, both of you!

@MrWilks

“It looks like a momentary pause in the unit drawing the waveform but if you’re experiencing a true stutter and visual craziness…”

Yes there’s a momentary pause, one halt at time, for a half beat or less then it catches up, not a delayed stutter, and not any visual craziness, but it disturbs my focus. It’s the usual sign of something that is under heavy load and occupies resources. Buffer underrun, comes to my mind, but don’t ask me what it is exactly.

Please, count how many momentary pauses you have in one track, it will be some good reference, I think!

No ! No ! No ! A great “specialist” said in this other thread that the culprit were external ssd !! :joy: Especially the Samsung T7 shield !!! Because him and 2 or 3 or… Who knows… Bunch of his “colleagues” had problems with T7… We got an engineer here, far more qualified than thousands of Samsung technician ! :joy: Amen. Le ridicule ne tue pas. Dommage.

Seen on 6000m too. A little visual stutter

For refreshment… it was indicated audio stutters in addition to the waveform!!! This is not called a stutter but a display lag! Yes I said there is a see two visual lag but without affecting the audio!

And to finish… our T7s had a lot of problems Amazon had taken care of them for after-sales service and they went directly to Samsung, then we were offered 2 choices either an exchange or a refund, we preferred to get a refund!

Symptoms were OS Engine Dj:

Stuttering audio, random screen freeze when navigating from one folder to another, very long loading times for folders, sometimes impossible to start playing decks. It was also stuck for more than 30 minutes when connecting the SSD for it to finally be detected.

Windows / Mac Symptom:

moving playlist folders sometimes a possible or it took more than 30 minutes for a 17 GB folder, random detection of the T7 SSD (Windows with trial of different format Exfat then Fat32, the problem was always the same), screen freeze,

I get this visual pause on SC Live 4, and I don’t use SSD’s, just a Sandisk USB stick. I’ve also started seeing blank entries when scrolling through tracks, that sometimes pop in later.

I can’t fit above together with the recent post in the Prime 4 thread:

I’m confused!

I can confirm with the person who created this post. I have a prime 4 + only have had for less than a month and it’s running latest firmware but I do have a little lags and stutters with my waveform. Hoping there’s a fix soon

Translated again for the English speaking part of the forum.

You’re really a jester! You say ■■■■ and then you come to pretend that you didn’t understand? From the beginning we were in a discussion that talked about display jumps and in no case sound problems. If you had read a little more carefully, but no! You came to mess up with your delusions about the T7s when no one had asked you anything! You can flag all my messages like a kid, it doesn’t prevent you from just a tocard. Guignol is going
