Prime Go+ and 5.0.1, instability?

Just bought it yesterday and updated straight away.

After playing for a couple of hours, I’m noticing a lot of instability.

  • Scrolling through menus on the left to check Playlists, Genres etc is choppy, there’s a slight freeze if I scroll too fast

  • Apple Music sometimes does not want to load a track for some reason, then it works randomly if I try again

  • Apple Music getting disconnected randomly, cutting the music entirely

  • I just had a complete reboot out of nowhere in the middle of a set

  • Battery stayed at 0% when I first plugged it

Had a lot of issues in my first session, then did another one which was fine, but I’m afraid this might happen again in a situation where it can’t happen.

I don’t use Apple Music or any other streaming platform! (I don’t trust them; there’s too much risk: server updates, maintenance, network outages, etc.).

I prefer to work with files in WAV, AIFF, FLAC, AAC, or MP3 formats. These are files I’ve either purchased or ripped myself from my CDs and vinyl records.

What type of USB drive do you use, and what format is it (FAT32 or exFAT)?

What is its capacity?

How many files do you have on it?

What formats do you use for your audio files?

Re-Edit : I haven’t yet updated my Prime Go, which is mainly used for weddings, to v5; it’s still on version 4.2.0. “I just turned it on and it’s not on v4.2.0 but on 4.3.2.”

I have the one I use for snack bars and dance bars, which is on v5.0.1, and for the moment there are no problems except that the SD card was not detected in Source after the update. After a second restart, the SD was visible and i had a minor bug with the two Pitch Bend buttons. The loading time for the entire library (92GB) is slightly longer than with a USB key.

I’m using AM mainly because it’s not for pro use, just personal dj sets and parties with friends, but I also have lots of local files (using a 16Gb USB stick for now, my SD is for the Omnis Duo, I’ll use it if I return the Omnis).

Formats are mixed, mp3/wav/aiff.

I’ll do another session today, see if I’m getting more instability. The second session was fine, besides the sluggish navigation when selection Playlists.

But seeing reports of other people having issues with 5.0.1 on the Prime 4, I’m checking in to see if the Prime is affected for other people too.

Be careful not to confuse all the problems some people are experiencing with yours!

I have a P4+, Rane System One, and I haven’t had any issues with stuttering or audio dropouts; it seems to be a few isolated cases with the ENGINE OS 5.0.1.

In your case, I think the USB drive might be the culprit! 16GB isn’t exactly new! What brand is your USB drive?

There are low-end and mid-range brands; you should aim for the best read and write performance.

I recommend using a 128GB SanDisk Extreme Pro.

I also recommend investing in quality SD cards. I have a Transcend High Performance 128GB SDXC 340S UHS-I U3 V30 Class A2, and my second favorite is the Sony SDXC M SERIES TOUGH 128GB W150M/S UHS-II V60 U3 Class 10. Keep in mind that an SD card will have lower performance compared to a good USB 3.1 flash drive like the Extreme Pro, for example, and a USB flash drive will be inferior to an SSD.

I switched to my SD card (Sandisk Extreme Pro, SDHC) but it’s still a bit choppy when scrolling to Playlists on the library menu on the left.

I don’t mean it’s unusable, but it’s definitely choppier than on my Omnis Duo. Doesn’t matter the SD or the USB stick, in the end the Omnis is just more responsive with the same sources.

As for the other instabilities I mentionned, they’re gone now after 2 or 3 sessions I did, not sure why.
