Hi - when out gigging using venue’s w-ifi I keep getting the following error even though there is a decent wifi signal detected.
“Wi-fi login error - please try moving closer to the access point”
I can connect from other devices in exactly the same spot (phone / iPad etc) so it’s really annoying that the Prime 4+ keeps doing this (a main reason I bought it was it’s ability to stream services from wi-fi!)
It seems to be happening since latest upgrade - could this be the reason?
Is anyone else experiencing this? Are Denon working on a fix?
That’s a pain @JP_Shields. A couple of things: one doesn’t help, but one might…
Does the venue hotspot have a login page? i.e. if you connect to wi-fi with your phone does it take you immediately to a web page to accept terms or advertise the hotel services etc… If so, you are usually stuck and it will disconnect the player. There’s no web browser on your player so in common with a lot of embedded devices you can’t connect to a hotspot like that.
You might be able to use a “travel router” to get around this by putting it in between you and the venue hotspot. Search Amazon for 'travel router" or similar. ( TP-Link AC750). I’m not talking about a router that uses cellular, but one which allows you to share a hotel hotspot between multiple devices to get around their restrictions. You login the travel router via your phone browser first, then you can connect the players to the travel router. [WISP mode]
Hi - yeah it is a pain - I’ll remember to check with my phone if that’s the case when connecting…
thanks for the tip - I’ve actually spotted the TP-Lin k AX1500 after doing a search which looks like it can do a job for me in those situations… it can run off a power bank too which is convenient - hopefully that can sort the issues with the venues that have the problematic wifi connections… Best wishes!
Ah ok - in the description on the AX1500 it say’s “Turn the public network into your private secure network via the tether app. In just one simple step, effortlessly complete the captive portal authentication during the router configuration process, freeing you from the hassle of authenticating each one of your devices.” - I thought that was the same thing,? Maybe I’m mistaken as I’m by no means an expert in networking
(Really appreciate you pointing this out btw! thanks)
Yeah no mention of WISP on the AX1500 specs though tbf - Quick question re the WR902AC - can you set it up at a gig using the TP-link tether app on your phone, or do you need to take a laptop to configure it?
