Prime 4 Stiff jog wheel

Hi,

is it possible to adjust the jogwheel tension? (by opening the unit ofc)

My unit is very stiff, if i try to do a backspin the track just moves 5/6 beats therefore it’s unusable for this scope. I saw videos on youtube of people backspinning entire tracks and i always wondered what’s wrong with my unit and if it’s fixable.

Regardd

As long as you’re prepared to completely disassemble the unit, which will undoubdtedly void the warranty if it’s new. If you’re not familiar with electronic devices, I wouldn’t recommend it (I am, and I’ve not done mine).

I have alreaady sent the unit to a repair shop that fixed play buttons, I could let them do the work. The question is more about if it’s something doable or the jog unit is a closed box where the tension adjusting cannot be done, or if it’s like a bolt need to be loosen a bit.

I imagine it’s adjustable after you’ve got the unit in bits, as Denon did change the tension after the first run of units when people complained that they were too loose.

Mine are really tight too.

Just tried to open the back but nothing, i guess it needs to be completely disassembled to reach the jog mechanism as you said.

Found this online:

Yes, i tryed to open the 2 bolts nearby the nut… its strange because the core wobbles but not the jog… I dindn’t try to uncrew the nut because by logic… if the whole block moves by opening the bolts it means that the nut is not connected to the jog in any way and i was afraid that i would’ve not be able to secure it after (it’s glued) can’t find anyone that opened the jog

Ok I tried again… the big nut is connected to the display inside the jogwheel. The only way to reach the jog directly is to disassebly completely the pcb therefore i give up.

I spoke to the repair shop that replaced the play buttons and they said the jog is a closed box… even if disassembled the mechanism that regulate the tension is built into it anyway.

I guess our only way to backspin is to use the backspin fx (must be there for a reason lol)… i don’t like that it’s too linear, no slowing down like a real backspin but i guess it can be fixed via software updates.

It’s a shame there’s no detailed info on the mechanism and how it works. I guess if someone has a completely trashed unit, they might be prepared to venture in…

As there’s a lot of variation between units, and apparently Denon did make an adjustment after the first batch was deemed too loose, I reckon there has to be an adjustment somewhere. I doubt they’d go as far as changing the manufacturing process.

Hmmm

I purchased my prime 4 in 2021 and the tension on the jogs were very tight and stiff but now after 3 years they are a lot looser and I’m able to do back spins normally.

I think more wear into the jogs over time should make them looser - I do tend to scratch (now and again) that also may have helped in loosening them.

Same, but mine didn’t got looser over time… I guess i need to use them more

Maybe we need to rig up a mechanical device to spin the jog wheels 24/7 for a week or so
