Prime 4 no sound with Serato DJ Pro

Good day fellow DJ’s,

I have decided to use Serato DJ Pro with my Prime 4; however, I’m having some connectivity issues. Computer mode is working, Serato is working on my computer, the screen on the Prime 4 is working but I’m not getting any sound. In the right hand corner of my computer screen I’m being told that Serato DVS Expansion is required to use Control Vinyl and CDs. I’m not adding any other media players, turntables, etc. I already have the DVS expansion package so I’m not understanding why my unit isn’t working. I would appreciate any assistance that can be given to me. Thank you to all in advance.

Hey @JerzMic

Nailing down issues like this can take a bit of time but hopefully you can check the basics quickly. If you’re still not getting any sound then heading over to the Serato forums could be beneficial as there’s a wider controller community over there.

  1. Do you see the VU meters light up? Is it just the master out or is it also the headphones? Is there any FX on that channel or are the stems all set to ‘off’?

  2. Install the very latest version that your machine is capable of (ideally the latest release).

  3. Check that there’s no driver to install and once installed and connected, leave it for around a minute to fully connect (usually a few seconds).

  4. I think I spotted on the Serato forum that there was some licences not being recognised in Serato DJ recently. It maybe worth asking over there if anyone else has experienced that. Little things like an incorrect date & time can through out licensing.

My first thought: Check that the Prime 4 mixer channels are all set to USB, not line or phono.

Good day MrWilks,

I thank you sir for responding. I will answer your statements/questions in the order in which you have presented to me. And they are as follows:

  1. The VU meter lights are only lit up on the master and they are not moving. I get no VU lights on channels 1-4. There is no sound coming out of the master or headphones. The effects at present are not active as well and the Prime 4 doesn’t have the stems capability like the Prime 4+.

  2. Yes the latest version is on my Prime 4, Serato DJ Pro, and my MacBook.

  3. There were no drivers to install.

  4. I made the mistake of thinking I had Serato DVS expansions packs and I don’t. I went and looked on my account and I don’t have the license for them. I’m thinking that might be the issue.

Once again though I’m not trying to use DVS. I’m trying to take my Prime 4 out of standalone mode and use it through computer mode. I don’t see where DVS should affect that. I’ve uploaded some pictures so you can see what I see.

Good day PKtheDJ,

Yes, all the channels are set to USB and not line/phono.

Any reason why your channel gains are all on zero? They should be at around 12 o’clock, that will be causing no sound.

Edit: and turn those bass knobs down, that’s a one way ticket to blown speakers/eardrums.

The treble knobs are all at max too - compensating for the dodgy downloads?

Hi @JerzMic

As the others have said, you want the four knobs on each channel set to 12 o’clock and turn the master up slowly. This will give you a better overall volume should we get anything out of it.

Remember: Gain, High, Mid & Low pointing up to 12 for a start.

If this hasn’t got any sound out of it, check DVS is turned off and Serato is in INT (internal) mode if that’s still an option.

Check the latency settings in Serato DJ options too. Try increasing this to see if you get any sound out.

It’s Mac too isn’t it so can’t be a driver issue.i wonder if the security setting for the prime to access all files needs to be activated? It pops up when you connect.

Microphone access needs to be granted too(although it looks as if it is from the dot top right corner)

Good day STU-C,

I thank you for your assistance and you saved me $400.00 because I was about to buy the expansion pack. As for my channel gains I always turn them to zero just out of habit. Had a situation where they where up on another unit, by mistake, and as you said speakers did pay the price. In the past I haven’t had to have the gains up to see music going thru the system. As long as the power is going thru the system my VU meters would let me know that power is going thru and everything is okay. With that said I would then turn the sound up no problems what so ever. Not to talk you head off but thank you my brother you are a life saver.

Haha no problem, if only all issues were this easy to resolve.

This is so true, once again thank you for your time, effort, and assistance.

Just as an aside, in Serato I tend to leave mine on manual with the level at 12 o clock then I use the mixer gain control to even out the music where needed… others prefer auto gain.
