PRIME 4 G2 – Accessing Now Playing / Track Metadata?

Hi all,

I’m trying to obtain live track metadata (artist/title) from the new PRIME 4 G2 for use with a custom Now Playing / streaming setup.

Has anyone found a working method yet?

So far I’ve tried:

  • StageLinQ / Now Playing 2 – the G2 doesn’t appear to respond to the traditional StageLinQ discovery.
  • Network monitoring – the G2 does broadcast EAAS discovery over UDP 11224.
  • Engine DJ Desktop – the G2 successfully connects to Engine DJ over EAAS/gRPC on port 50010.
  • EAAS testing – library browsing works, but I haven’t found any Now Playing/deck metadata being sent when playing tracks.
  • USB MIDI – plenty of controller/deck events are visible, but no artist/title metadata.
  • Tested while playing Beatport Streaming tracks as well as looking at local playback behaviour.
  • Checked the G2 settings and can’t see any option for StageLinQ, metadata broadcasting, or similar.

The goal is simply to retrieve artist + title of the currently playing track, ideally regardless of whether it’s from Beatport, another streaming service, or local storage.

Has anyone managed to get this working on the PRIME 4 G2, or know whether there is a new replacement for StageLinQ on this model?

Grab a demo of resolume and see if it pops up there. Otherwise, this might end up being another feature that was left out of the g2.

Hi, Thank you for the idea @Myalteredsoul

I have now just tested Resolume Arena as suggested. Arena’s Denon DJ StageLinQ panel is enabled, but it reports “No Denon DJ players detected in the network.” Windows Firewall is allowing Resolume inbound/outbound. I also checked the StageLinQ TCP ports Arena expects (41862, 41877, 41892, 41907, 41922) on the PRIME 4 G2 and all are closed.

The G2 does appear to use the newer EAAS system instead (UDP 11224 / TCP 50010), but so far I haven’t found any live artist/title/deck metadata exposed through it. So it currently looks like classic StageLinQ may not be present on the G2.

Hi, not sure if your case is special but i use an USB-A to Lan dongle. Put the dongle in the USB-A in the back of the unit. Works great for showing track info in OBS.

Hi, Thanks, that’s really interesting. Just to confirm, are you using the new PRIME 4 G2, not the PRIME 4 or PRIME 4+?

If so, do you know which USB-A to Ethernet adapter/chipset you’re using? And are you getting the track artist/title into OBS via StageLinQ / Now Playing 2, or another application?

I’ve tested StageLinQ extensively over the G2’s built-in Wi-Fi and it doesn’t respond, so if StageLinQ becomes available through a USB Ethernet adapter that could be exactly what I’m looking for.

Hi, yes i’m using a G2 with an usb-lan adapter from plexgear. Don’t know if you have it in your country but i think that most brands will work. I use OBS Studio and Now Playing 2. For setup just use their own guide. It shows Artist and track title, have disabled the rest.

This solution works exactly as the old Lan port.

Hi, Thanks very much for the information. I’ve ordered a USB-to-Ethernet adapter and will test this setup when it arrives tomorrow. I’ll update the thread with the results once I’ve tried it with the G2, Now Playing 2 and OBS. Thank you.

Hello Dreflex.

Great, please do. I think more people have the same question after removing the Lan port.

Hi, Just an update as I’ve now managed to get this working on the new Denon DJ PRIME 4 G2.

I connected a USB-A to Ethernet adapter to the PRIME 4 G2 and connected that to the same network as my Windows PC. With that setup, the G2 is exposing StageLinQ successfully over Ethernet.

I can receive loaded track metadata including artist/title, deck information, play state and mixer information. I’ve also confirmed that externalMixerVolume reflects the effective audible level of the deck, including both channel fader and crossfader movement, so it’s possible to determine which deck is actually on air.

I’ve tested this with both Beatport Streaming tracks and tracks loaded from local USB storage, and the metadata is being received correctly from both.

I’ve also tested physically disconnecting and reconnecting the Ethernet adapter, and StageLinQ can reconnect successfully afterwards.

Interestingly, I couldn’t get the same classic StageLinQ connection working through the G2’s built-in Wi-Fi, but USB-A > Ethernet on the PRIME 4 G2 works reliably.

One feature that would be really nice to see in a future update would be StageLinQ/metadata connectivity either over the existing USB-C connection to the laptop or directly over Wi-Fi. That would make this much cleaner and would avoid users having to purchase and connect a separate USB-A-to-Ethernet adapter just for StageLinQ.

But for anyone else investigating StageLinQ / Now Playing integration with the PRIME 4 G2, I can confirm that USB-A > Ethernet is currently a working solution.

Great news! Happy mixing and thanx for the update :+1:
