Prime 2 left Platter will stop song when I touch but back cue-ing or scratching doesn't work

When I touch left platter track will stop and resume when I let go so touch capacitive is working but trying to spin platter back and forth doesn’t work with vinyl mode engaged or just even to cue a paused track. Is there like a sensor or something that can be easily cleaned to fix this or do I have to send it out?

Some batches of prime 2 products seem to be a little capricious with the grounding.

Firstly I advise you to check that all the screws of the chassis under the unit are perfectly tightened in particular the screws located in the center of the unit under the chassis, it would seem that these contribute to the grounding.

If you notice that some of them turn in the void or to infinity without being able to be tightened it is probably your problem and it requires a repair.

You can however carry out the following tests:

Try to touch a metal part of the unit with your other hand when you want to scratch, if it works it indicates a grounding problem.

You can try to keep your hand placed on the jogwheel on the side that is causing the problem when you turn on the unit, do not remove your hand until Engine OS is ready to run.

There is an automatic calibration of the Jogwheels at startup, but sometimes some internal ground problems can interfere with the calibration sequence. By keeping your hand on the jogwheel your body can make ground and the calibration sequence can be done without being interfered with. This is not an absolute truth in all cases, but this manipulation could help some users who had internal ground problems with the unit.

Do your own tests to see if this works for you

Screws are good and definitely not the ground. Like I said touching the platter stops track and releasing let’s it go. It just refuses to recognize that platter is being spun backwards or forward. Right platter works fine. So to sum up if ground was no good wouldn’t be able to stop track by touching the wheel.side nudging doesn’t work either because it does not see when platter is spinning.

I will try touching platter while it boots. This is the one thing I haven’t tried. I suspect it won’t work because I believe it has to do with whatever sensor detects the spinning motion. I am not sure if the sensor is optical/laser/magnetic, but if it is optical can it be cleaned or does that just need to be replaced? Been scouring the internet and no one seems to have same problem. Everyone else just seems to have grounding issues that can be overcome by grounding yourself on the chassis.

Your case is indeed quite atypical, generally most people do not have problems with rotation but have problems with the capacitive in vinyl mode, either ghost touches are detected (the music stops as if the jogwheel had been touched) or the touch is badly / not detected at all

How does your jogwheel behave when vinyl mode is disabled? Does the nudge work correctly?

I have absolutely no idea how the jogwheel rotation recognition works, or even what type of sensor is used. All I can tell you is that the jogwheels at Denon DJ seem to be made in a single block that is difficult to open from what I have read on the various posts.

No nudge vinyl on or off.

Maybe try a firmware reinstall or a factory reset, but I don’t really believe in that.

This seems more like a hardware malfunction that needs to be checked or repaired by a qualified technician or repair center

Yeah I think you’re right. It started before the stems update and update didn’t change anything. Also I saw a video of a partial tear down on a prime 4 and that looks like a lot of PCB boards that need to come out just to get to side the platter is on. If I knew it was just a matter of cleaning and optical eye with some isopropyl, then I would be willing to do the work. But, not if I don’t know what to expect and/or if I would need to have a replacement piece on hand, or what that piece even is. Without knowing the scope of the project or what kind of sensor it even is for that matter, not gonna start pulling it apart. I am really curious though now as to how it works.

You might be on your own with this one. If you decide to take it apart here is a supplier of spare parts

I have a prime 4 plus and it does the same thing
