Phase announcement incoming…

So Phase DJ (those guys that made a HID device that sticks to your vinyl) have teased something new incoming.

Phase itself was pretty game changing for a digital DJ that spun vinyl and didn’t want record tracking with tone arms and styli. This could be something to watch.

Lets count the users saying “please to god no AI” haha.

Hopefully a device that needs no sound card, goes straight into the line in and provides the music… id definitely consider it then.

Not related but having Phase add support within Engine DJ would be kinda cool. Have the wireless modules link directly to the software and use the sound card within.

Maybe add a Phase DJ licence like we do stems?

It may not be possible but opening up to a collab would be fun.

Well even the old BT protocol in the Prime units could work, it’s just data not audio and BT 4.2 has .6ms latency

It’s how I kinda imagined it to work. Connecting the two sensors via BT HID directly to the hardware should give a decent scratch. The latency wouldn’t be any different to a games console controller and pretty much how they work now with Phase DJ.

A lot of people worry about Bluetooth but it’s only the audio streaming side of it that has lag.

It’s probably not even possible but it would be pretty cool for those that want to use some TTs as a controller for the second layer of a deck or a Prime 4. I just don’t think the users would be there as it’s a bit niche.

One guess for the announcement would be Phase DJ built into a mixer.

The trouble I found was the fact they keep dropping the connection and any funny things gooing on in your BLUE-TOOTH Home also causes problems> I returned them after a week. Nice idea, however not stable at all.

I’ll keep the vinyl & SC6000…

Honestly, cant’ see the justification in buying this upgrade.

It is rather : price beyond measure

I watched the Beatsource Tech video (thanks @Dunno for sharing).

Speculated suggested retail is around $800 U.S.

I own the original and not really seeing a good reason to upgrade. It would be a nice-to-have but… well, that’s it for me.

Wonder why they didnt do a puck form factor and as @STU-C said make it a dvs box. Then the RRP of 800usd would make sense.

Puck + DVS/HID box would have been neat

I have the OG Phase, i only use them at home though.

Someone will have to explain to me at what point an engineer thought that putting a touch screen on something that rotates was a good idea.

100% this, DVS box with those would be an awesome tool. Especially now more and more mixers are coming out with no soundcard

I think the touchscreen buttons will be more for triggering while the vinyl is held and ready to scratch. I don’t think it it’s a must have feature. I think these will be just like how Apple released the Watch Ultra. Just a twist on the OG for people with more money.

I don’t own Phase and I don’t plan on getting it but I do think the new units are a good replacement product.

Longer battery life and a stronger signal are natural upgrades and you get a quality of life improvement via the new touchscreen.

The price looks to be pretty high though.

Like with iOT, “because they can”. Screens on an internet-connected toilet? No problem.

The first look at the prototype does look quite cool. It’s not something I’d see value in myself but I like the customisations.

Interestingly it will not use RCA and hook up directly via HID so I guess that it could be incorporated into Engine OS too should it ever need to be (but probably never).
