One of my SC6000's says the 2.1.0 update is available, despite already running 2.1.0

I just upgraded both my SC6000’s as well as my Prime Go to 2.1.0.

One SC6000 upgraded fine, the Prime Go also upgraded fine.

The other SC6000 failed to upgraded the first time (the unit when through the upgrade process using Web Update, but rebooted into 2.0.0).

I ran the Web Update again, and the player now is running 2.1.0. However, if I go into Settings/About, it says I’m running 2.1.0 but “Engine OS 2.1.0 is available” (where my other units say “You are on the latest version”).

I also tried to do the update via my Mac, but the same message appears in Settings/About.

It’s not the biggest issue, since the player does work just fine (and boots into 2.1.0). But I ran into a failed update the last time too, so have some concerns as to why.

Try and remove the version file on the source drive you’re using on the particular SC6000.

Funny how now on the OS the update is called ‘web update’. I mean…the OS is not running a web browser and the update behind the scenes likely happens using some more primitive file transfer protocol…

Wasn’t it called ‘over the air’ before? Seemed less confusing…

I know, nitpicking…but honestly I did stare at the screen and unsure weather to click ‘web’ or ‘computer’ when I upgraded to 2.1 today…

Interesting that showing the ‘new version is available’ is tied to the ‘source’ and not the OS itself. Or perhaps the source is used as temp storage to download and unpack the firmware?

My SC6Ks always say there is an update, even when there isn’t, so I just ignore it.

And I don’t know why, but some part of me doesn’t trust the players to update themselves, so I always do via computer!

If they use wget, a popular linux tool for precisely downloading 1 file, it is still a web transfer

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they are grabbing the file internally using a web request. But yeah, not the most obvious term for non-techie people.

Anyway… deleting the version file from the drive didn’t help. This SC6000 does have an internal SSD mounted in it, but I did make sure no other drives (USB/SD Card) were connected that could also have a version file.

Oh well. If others are seeing it, must just be a software bug.

Ha ha, I concede! Good one. And they are most definitely running linux on Prime OS. What else would they run? Bloatware Windows? In fact, if you look at the directory on the desktop, it shows it uses QT for the UI.

Which begs the question: Why not have a linux version of the Desktop version, given the OS version already runs on linux? Soooo little effort it would take.

And given they are using so many open source parts in their Prime software, they could help support the FOSS community.

Cheers

Get it running is one thing. Get it running bug free and actively supporting Linux users is another thing…

I completely disagree. Engine OS most definitely already runs on Linux. The software libraries they chose to write the UI with? Also come from the open source Linux world. Engine DJ and Engine OS share majority of the code which is already running smooth.

Vast majority of the code on Engine DJ already can run on Linux. It is likely just some wrapper calls to get the app running that are native to the Windows OS. Replacing those so it would run on Linux would really not be as bug ridden as you may think.

In fact I will make it a feature request

Cheers

It uses QT framework which is multi platform.

Yes indeed; browsing the desktop directory shows it uses the QT framework, which is open source. They also smartly use SVG everywhere, so whether smaller screen on the hardware of desktop software they can use the same icons and effects since they will redraw perfectly no matter the resolution.

Getting something running on Linux is one thing…. Yet they’d have to invest in additional testing, training support staff on Linux…

For how many users? Not many. So very unlikely it’s a wise business decision.

…same here ! After lot of „try and error“, one SC6000M ist running with 2.1.0, the other one tells „ …json…“ error, and… the internal SSD isnt showing…

Stuff: 2 x SC6000m, with 2 x 1TB SSD 1 x X1850 iMac, latest release and OS

Not sure if this was mentioned but Web Update is simply downloading the update from either wifi or ethernet without having to download the file > move to a drive or hook up the computer > then do the update that way.

Any movement on this bug?

Even after formatting the SSD inside this SC6000 and installing the recent 2.2.0 update, I still see the message “Update is available” in preferences despite my deck already being upgraded.

It’s not a huge deal, but annoying.

I found that a mismatch between the versions of Engine DJ desktop caused this on my Prime 4.

I could be wrong but in the “Database 2” folder there is “Version” and I think this reports the latest version to the hardware which it remembers no matter which stick goes in.

Maybe that is the key? I fixed it once but forgot how it’s done!
