Not Enough Disk Space (Solved)

Hi everyone The problem has already been mentioned several times on the forum without a coherent solution being proposed. I’m trying my luck because it’s a bug that can be serious during a performance.

I will try to be as precise as possible:

When I want to load a track from Tidal into a player, I get this message “Not Enough Disk Space”. This problem has also happened to Soundcloud users. I followed this useless advice:

  • I disconnected the hard drive for about 10 minutes and it did not change anything
  • I formatted the hard drive and it did not change anything

I have a 500GB SSD formated in ExFAT with only 70GB in use. So the problem is internal to the Prime 4 and not due to the hard drive.

This message only occurs when I want to load a streaming title in “HiFi” (Lossless FLAC) ans some “High” (320kbs/s AAC) quality on a player, I have no problems with playback from the hard drive or Tidal in Normal (96kbs/s HE-AAC). I can also view my Tidal playlist correctly.

I need to clear the Prime 4 cache or do a hard reset. There must be hidden menus through key combinations on power up like a bios.

Do you have a solution for this? Thank you by advance for your help.

I have found two topics about the same issue containing two very coherent solutions:

  1. making sure the drive used is formated in MBR and fat/exfat format
  2. reflashing the firmware

Thank you for your help. I had not mentioned these elements in my description but the hard disk is well formatted in ExFAT (I remind you that the problem does not come from the hard disk because Tidal, Soundcloud… Are cached in the Prime itself, not the hard drive). I tried to reinstall the firmware but it didn’t solve the problem.

Did you Try without the SSD. You can stream without any drive.

Unfortunately, the problem is the same without the SSD because the caching is internal to the Prime 4. By the way, an identical topic to mine is visible on the forum and the author of the topic didn’t have an HDD.

Maybe someone with a prime4 will chime in. I have no issues playing Tidal FLAC on the 6000m.

I have a colleague who also has a Prime 4 and has no problem. The problem is with the buffer. I have to clear the cache of the Prime 4.

I’d love to chime in…

I also have been experiencing this issue and submitted a separte support ticket, but my info is below for quick reference.

Hardware: Prime 4 Firmware: v.2.2.2 HDD: 1 TB Samsung SSD (internal) File Sysem: ExFat Formatted into 1 Primary Partition w/ MBR Software: Engine Desktop v.2.2.2
Computer OS: Windows 10 Home Edition Version: 21H2 OS Builld: 19044.1889

From what I can see, I think the issue may be related to the database. I do agree with Vincent’s comment, however, about flushing the cache or maybe resetting the line related to this in the database. What I don’t understand is how the issue persists through firmware flashing, database deletion and everything else I’ve tried. I’m not sure if it would be related to partial corruption, complications with syncing of streaming data & accounts through multiple devices, or faulty code, but I can not find anything that resolves this issue.

It has been over a month since I submitted a ticket (#57544) and still haven’t gotten a response from Denon. I just submitted another ticket a few minutes ago on this forum that should be listed soon, but this is almost a last ditch effort on my part to draw more attention to this issue and, hopefully, get a responce from Denon’s tech support staff for Vincent and myself.

Any comments, suggestions or tips that anyone may have or from Denon support staff in particular would truly be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you PhillyStixxx for your message. It also clarifies me because indeed, there may be a problem with the database. Denon does not reveal the information relating to the internal motherboard but there is necessarily RAM and a disk space which contains the firmware, the history, the loops, etc because everyone does not put a hard disk in his Prime 4. It is the latter that needs to be accessed. Our SSD has nothing to do with the problem. I would like to find a 2.2.0 firmware to downgrade the internal software to the Prime 4.

Maybe not, but to the best of my knowledge you have to select an attached storage device of some kind before you try to use Tidal. At the very least the track info needs to write to the database.

I can’t remember when I installed Tidal if I selected a storage device, but if so, how do I select it again? The storage device is not my SSD, I formatted it thinking that the problem could be with it.

Maybe @Anthony_DDJ can help me? I have also opened a ticket No. 77279 on Denon support which has not been answered for several days.

Tidal works without any storage. Selecting a storage is for storing hotcue, waveform data for tidal.

@Vincent_Leclere have you tried logging out of tidal and the “clear” option

Hi Vincent

This may or may not be of help to you. I have SC6000s and have an ongoing issues with the memory size in the unit. I make my own digital copies and the file size became an issue. I to use two hard drives (both the same) that I keep my music files on one for each player. Now if I play a music file say 280 Mb it will play direct into the player but as the units have an internal limit on file size anything above 236 Mb will not load via the link between the two players so I to get a message to say it wont load as file to large.

At first the limit was 250 Mb but now it’s been reduced to 236 Mb as I believe for the units to do more so on upgrades it needs more space so they reduces the space for the memory of the current track you want to load.

It short my issue is down to the size of the internal memory form what you are saying this may me your issue to, but I am not an expert so could be well off on this one.

Hi @DJKeith

You have taught me something important and I thank you for your message. The files I upload from Tidal to the Prime 4 do not exceed 80MB but maybe I have less than 250MB available… Do you know what form the Prime 4’s internal memory takes? RAM bar?

I tried the “clear” option but didn’t try yet to logging out…

Disconnecting from Tidal does not solve the problem, which I think is normal since the problem is with the internal memory of the Prime 4. It also doesn’t require me to choose a storage space for the database.

Hi Vincent

Sorry to say I have no idea what the internal memory is for a Prime 4. The 250 Mb was the limit for a SC6000 but that is now reduced to 236 Mb.

If I was you ask the Tech side of Denon (InMusic) what is the max size file you can download on your unit, but don’ hold your breath as I have been trying to find out what the internal memory is and how much of this is required to run the player for some time now. I have even asked for the internal memory not to be reduced any more, I even asked if it could be taken back and a larger one put in. They said to put these things on the forum as a suggestion for later as the forum is monitored.

Although I do not know what the internal limit is on your unit it’s worth putting in request to get it resolved as I could be very wrong in your case I am not a tech person, but what I will say is even the best Hi-Res downloads the files are very small to is there another reason you can not get it to work as required. - Good Luck

Guess you have to wait for support to get back to you

@Reese any ideas

I agree @mufasa but the Denon’s support is very silent… I’m like @PhillyStixxx, I’m still waiting for a response.
