I’m not particularly a fan of the FX section on the right that reigns as the industry standard, I’ve always worked on DJM 2000 which has the FX section in the center and it never bothered me. and I’m not bothered either if I switch to a layout with the FX section on the right.

Unfortunately standards are standards, it’s become common practice to have an FX section on the right, just as it’s become common practice to have the cue button at the bottom left, the play button just below, and the pitchfader to the right of the jog dial. This is the standard club layout imposed by Pioneer and what everyone is used to now.

Every time Denon has wanted to change things, to have their own style/their own layout deviating from this standard, they haven’t managed to make Pioneer tremble.

And since Denon took over the Pioneer Layout in 2017 with the introduction of the sc5000, and even improved it, with a loop encoder, with beatjump buttons, with a pitchfader of excellent quality, Denon DJ has never been more popular.

That’s how you can’t move away from the established standards, from what people are used to.

Edit: I agree however that placing the pads above the jog is nonsense, placing them under the jog as Denon did it makes much more logical sense.

You can imagine that Pioneer/AT would have loved to have the idea of being the first to place the pads under the jog, but as Denon had done it before, they had no choice but to put them above to differentiate themselves. The justification with the story that DJs like to put their hand at the bottom of the Deck is marketing ■■■■■■■■ to try to make the pill go down. They would have said the exact opposite if Denon had not done it before them.

Roland’s DJ products have always struggled to get consistent growth. This dates all the way back to 2000 with the DJ-1000 and DJ-2000 mixers and even the EF-303. I owned the DJ-1000 .

I really liked the 2000 mixer.

I would have liked the DJ-808 had it not been that green colour and mirrored pitch. I absolutely cannot stand mirrored controllers. It just messes with my workflow and I never ever get used to it.

I hate mirroring setups too

And xdj az? Thuesday?

Literally my biggest turn-off from watching videos. It’s just a craze that everyone jumped on and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

Who seriously thinks posing with a shocked face and pointing to a bit of gear with a click-bait headline on a thumbnail is a good look?

This trend needs to die.

Dont forget capital letters and lots of !!! in the title too… youtube marketing 101

OMG the proliferation of videos with titles like:

“THIS is the ONE thing you HAVE to do NOW!!!”

What’s the thing? Why do I have to do it? Plus inevitably the “one thing” is either not mentioned at all, or is right at the end of the video.

I’ve just spotted a video on YT that falls into this category, and it’s about the GRV6. Someone has actually had to ask in the comments why the video was titled as it was, and why the thumbnail showed what it did. The OP had to explain everything in response.

That was my last “traditional” controller before I fully switched to Denon standalone. It was a great device with little flaws, built like a tank, with surprisingly punchy audio-quality, the dope TR-S section, 8 SweepFX, good connectivity and that VT which everybody of my guests loved, especially on private events, lol. I just hated those green LEDs, cheap looking jog displays and mirrored layout. A successor á la 909 would be dope, but Roland won’t do it and I can’t blame them, considering market dominance of the DDJ1000/SRT/FLX10 units.

Agreed, hence my very different approach: My face always looks bored/serious/neutral, and jumping around like a bouncy ball on drugs isn’t an option either with that 6kg/13lbs behemoth. Certainly a bit silly in its own way, but at least something out of the norm - and fun to record, edit and publish.

Btw, fake thumbnails on Youtube are the worst. Luckily there are plenty of addons for Firefox to make it bearable again (rating bar, remove capslock titles, real preview, etc…)

The XLR comments :man_facepalming:t3:

I can’t get over how many stupid people there are involved in DJing, it’s beyond help.

That sentence would have been complete without the last three words.

I see so many questions where people ask “how do i connect my dj controller to speakers”. Literally, white and red cable connects are COLOR CODED on both ends and most cable connectors are colored THE SAME WAY. How people cannot see the logic there IDFK.

I saw some crackers recently after Native Instruments revealed their updated Z1 USB mixer module…

Why no XLRs? Why no booth output? Why no mic input? Why no DVS? ad infinitum.

Does it have stems though?

Control of stems yes. :relieved:

That’s why I got the FLX10 for stems use with VDJ. Having the dedicated buttons for channels and FX has revolutionised the way I mix now.

Seriously it opens up a whole new world of creativity.
