Ok, so I want to build my hybrid setup the right way, and it’s complicated, so I’ll do my best to describe everything in the best detail. I want to be able to utilize Traktor on all 4 decks on my mixer on separate inputs.
What I have:
2x Sc5000Ms
1x X1800 Mixer
2x Numark ttxs (for vinyl/phono and phase dj)
1x Phase Dj
2x Traktor X1 MK1
1x Maschine Studio
1x Maschine Jam
1x Behringer TD-3
1x NI Audio 8 interface
What I’m adding:
1x Roland TR8S
What I’m thinking of adding (as I would like as many channels as possible)
1x A+H Xone96
Or
1x PlayDifferent Model 1
My end goal is to be able to play 4 tracks from Traktor to each respective channel on the X1800 and also be able to change input to the Sc5000Ms or Phase DJ (which would control Traktor). I just don’t want it all messy and want the workflow to be as seamless as possible.
As far as the TD-3, TR8S and any other synth/sampler they would be running through my Yamaha 12 ch USB mixer to the mic input of the X1800 to give me more control of the EQs and load them all into one single input of the mixer.
I’m using 1 MacBook pro for Maschine software, and 1x Mac Pro for Traktor.
My brain is going in circles about the different ways I could do all this, and I thought I’d ask others for some insight.
This is like a Chris Liebing setup on steroids and I want to be able to do what I want, when I want, and how I want… And I know it’s possible.
Hello, @Maxstrassemuzik
The setup, you described is fairly simple and easy to wire in all of that.
just I would go a bit different route with the dj mixer and stage mixer.
From your description I assume, you are using Yamaha MG12 XU mixer, is that right?
Plugin all dj equipment like you normally would - decks to mixer, turntables to mixer, phase to the computer, USB 1 on the mixer to the computer.
Audio routing:
Machine - to stereo input on Yamaha mixer, channel 5/6.
TD-3 - to Yamaha mixer on mono channel 1 or 2, or 3, or 4.
TR8S - to stereo input on Yamaha mixer, channel 7/8 for more control on EQ.
X1800 - to stereo input on Yamaha mixer, channel 9/10 or 11/12 - no need for much EQ control, so this can run to channel with less EQ options.
Use Yamaha master output as Your main output to venue mixer.
Now my suggestion for midi control and midi clock for sync:
Traktor and Machine needs to get Ableton link from the X1800 LAN output (decks need to be plugged in to the mixer hub as well to send ableton link)
Machine can be the din 5 output of the midi clock.
So from Machine run Midi cable to TR8S, and from there to TD-3.
Set them to different midi channels, so they don’t trigger each other accidentally.
Set the midi output in Machine software respectively to the hardware devices.
If you need more info on hybrid setups - I am happy to help. I did such things since 2015
Don’t forget that the x1800 and x1850 have digital link, for connecting the outputs of two mixers together - that’s 8 stereo channels , 2 fx banks , 4 excellent mic channels , 4 usb in outs etc
Why not switch to a DJM-V10?
You could connect all your equipment simultaneously without using another mixer and switch between the different sources with the source selectors on the mixer’s face.
I have a similar setup: Turntables, SC6000s, Phase, and Traktor D2s, just one Maschine and no synths or drum machines, but a few effects units, and all works like a charm with the V10.
I’m not familiar enough with the Xone 96 to recommend it. Might do the trick, too.
I can’t say If what he wants to achieve (quote below) is possible with the X1800 he owns. What I can say is that it’s possible and a joy to use with the V10.
I had a moment when I was deciding between Xone 96 and V10.
I went for Xone 96, because of the analog sound and better handling of external send/return connections. I don’t like that on V10 you have 1 knob for multiple sends.
Xone 96 can handle a lot of gear actually.
I can live with just one send (I use the returns to manage the signal) but the way Pioneer DJ implemented the filter (either lpf OR hpf for all channels) is less than desirable. They should have taken note of the MP2015 - its filter integration and sound are superb. Aside from that, the V10 is a phenomenal mixer.
I played on Euphonia 2 times.
Nice sound, the big channel volume knobs are very smooth and pleasant to mix, but overall mixer is nothing extraordinary. FX section feels clunky compared to other rotary mixers. Price and marketing hype…
M8. You know EXACTLY what I’m looking for. Idk if this forum has DMs but hit me up!! Your first post was all the answers and more! I’d love to pick your brain
