My platters spins but only pitchbends when I try to scratch. This started at 4.01 and still here after this new update.
works fine here.
you may want to redo the update via an alternative method to how you did it previously.
I used wifi first then used my computer. I also went back to 3.4 to when it was last working but it’s still happening on that and then I updated back to 4.1 and it’s still happening.
I went into computer mode and hooked it up to Serato and it was happening there too.
I can only scrub when the deck is stopped otherwise it acts like a pitch bend even when the platter is spinning.
Did you try a factory reset?
Yes, I’m gonna give it another try later on
Your player seems to behave as if vinyl mode is disabled.
Have you checked that it is enabled?
Ok I tried a factory reset and went to a lower firmware and brought it up to new. The issue is there regardless in standalone mode or computer mode in serato. Should I make a ticket?
Might be a silly question but do you have vinyl mode activated or deactivated?
I pressed the button for sure. I check both layers with vinyl mode on and off.
Spindle screw is tight enough?
Have you ever opened the unit to replace the motors grease ?
It could be that the sensor was incorrectly repositioned if this is the case.
The motor is working. It’s spinning when vinyl mode is on but no scratching it just acts like a jog wheel whit pitch bending only. When in jog mode and the track is stopped I can scrub the track.
So to summarize when you are in vinyl mode, the motor turns but the platter behaves as if you were with the vinyl mode deactivated, is that right?
You should know that the motorized system is composed of two axes
The motor itself which drives the platter and which acts on the “bending/nudge” effect
The central rod which is independent of the motor, on which the record is clipped to the surface of the platter. When you scratch, your record therefore turns the central rod.
At the other end of this rod under the motor is what you see in the image posted above. a small graduated plastic disc as well as an optical sensor.
So when you scratch, the movement is given to the central rod via your scratching disc, the rod turns independently of the rotation of the motor and therefore turns the lower graduated disc. The optical sensor is responsible for converting the movements read into action on the sound by sending the position information back to Engine OS.
This explains why when the engine is inactive and when no song is playing, if you scratch, you can hear the scratching sound even if the engine is not turning.
If this works it means that the sensor is well positioned and working correctly.
But if you try to scratch when your track is not playing and you do not hear the scratching sound, then you have a problem with the optical sensor.
I never opened the unit up. It was working normally when I was practicing. I decided to update the firmware while taking a break from practicing. I updated the firmware and loaded a track and then the issue popped up
Hi @Wyley1
Could you please perform the following test:
- Load a track on your Layer A and play it with vinyl mode enabled (motor on)
- Switch to your Layer B, check that the motor is also enabled on this layer then make an instant double of the track currently playing on layer A.
- Let both tracks play simultaneously without touching the platter and see if there is any drift
This test is intended to check the condition of your motor grease and if it needs to be replaced.
The SC5000M is known to have grease that tends to dry out and harden over time, especially when temperatures get colder. A grease that has become too dry could possibly prevent the central spindle from rotating properly.
Bro thank you you were correct.
I’m a happy camper now.
Thnx to all who chimed to help.
When in doubt, make sure you don’t have a screw loose.
Now I remember. I was setting my sc5000m platters to be the same as my Rane one’s and I didn’t get the set screw in place apparently.
@Gaian i know I’ll eventually have to regrease not only my sc5000m but also my Rane one thnx for the reminder of regreasing.
Noice.
Btw I never had a M version, it’s just knowledge of construction and basic troubleshooting.
