Moving Engine Prime to new internal drive

Greetings and belated Happy New Year. Desktop A had all my Engine Prime/Library Backup etc. Worked just fine. I recently bought Desktop B which has a 1TB internal SSD. I was able to install/transfer the EP environment to Desktop B no problem. However, I got a bug up my yazoo to install another internal, larger (2TB) SSD and have THAT drive be the one for EP, and my music downloads etc. Thus leaving the C: boot drive alone.

I searched high and low, but the vast number of how to articles dealt with basically external drives and in essence making a copy of EP. Trying to do a “Sync” through Engine Prime was useless because EP would not even show/list my other internal drive. However when I would connect a USB or external SSD into the desktop, it would show in the SYNC window.

I even copied EP Backup and Library to an external drive, uninstalled Engine software, reinstalled it, but there was no way to select what drive I wanted that program to load into. It automatically loaded into C: drive. Which in MHO is kinda of shortsighted by Denon, unless there is a reason for not providing that option. So…I hope I was able to convey what I’m wanting to do, and is this doable ?

Thank You

Hmm… Engine DJ by default makes libraries on every drive in encounters. Some people have their main library on an external drive, and this can be synced to another external drive.

We don’t really encounter 2 internal drives that often, with all the laptops being used these days…. Trying my best here to help…

Does an engine library gets created on your internal “not C” drive? Does it show when you open the “drives” column in Engine? The main window shows only the union of all connected drives, while you can use the “drives” column to select which specific drive you want to show…

Only if music is interacted with on that volume.

Right…

Try to put an MP3 on that drive, and drag it into Engine DJ to see what happens? That way you’ll force a library on the external drive.

Hello. Maybe you should try moving the default “Music” folder to another disk. I did that, but only on partitioned volumes. Maybe that’s what happens with the disk. I’m not an expert and please take my advice with caution.

Assuming this is a Windows PC, The Music folder’s location will have to be moved to the new SSD in order for EP to recognize the drive.

If you right-click the Music Folder in Explorer, there should be an option to enable you to move the folder’s location.

I tried that. I made a copy of the Engine Prime and music folder on a USB drive, uninstalled EP from drive C: removed the music folder, Engine Backup, Engine Library from drive C: I then uninstalled EP, reinstalled it so that EP, music, and Engine Backup were in the new drive…and nothing. It still installs onto C:… and then when I open EP…it is blank. SYNC wont show anyrthing else…this ■■■■■!

EP defaults to the location of the Music folder which is most likely still the C: drive if you did not tell Windows where the Music folder should be.

The video above is what I was referring about.

Thanks for the effort, but that didn’t work for me either. I’ve come to the conclusion that since it has been working fine, I’m going to leave it alone. I subscribe to the “If it works don’t fix it” mantra!

Thanks to all that responded with suggestions.

  • My desktop has 2 SSDs (C and D)

  • Program files are installed into C so Engine DJ is installed on my C drive

  • I have moved my default MUSIC folder to D, so engine dj library folder is created on the D.

  • All my music files are on D

  • Everything Works fine
