Im considering a 2 channel mixer with crossfader for my vinyl, and ive convinced myself it needs to be specced up like a DJM-S7 really, so I can use DVS too. This makes it an extremely tough ask as most cheaper mixers have software FX only.
The cheapo Akai one I just bought is ok but very low output and flat sound, I’ll need to tinker a bit more with it before writing it off.
Built in DVS control on standalone units would be epic though.
Credit where credit is due, I am quite a big fan of the Pioneer S-mixer line, they nailed it in terms of features and design (the Ranes still have the better materials, though). When I was young, my actual dream mixer wasn’t the DJM-600 or Xone92, but the DJM-909. It was so slick and ahead of its time, so even the S11 has a specific 909 design variant as homage. But yeah, I am mostly an electronic/club DJ, not a turntableist. And I want to fuel my LED mask without any laptop, hence, Engine hardware is what I need. I really miss a compact 2ch option, like the old DN-X600. I don’t like the design of the X1800/1850, and they are too big (long) for my liking.
Did I see last year that it was on the cards? I’m sure I’d seen it on one of those live streams with Jason? Maybe I was dreaming but I’m sure it was somewhere. Maybe the iDJ live stream.
Afaik you can directly plug them into slots 3 and 4 of the Prime 4 (as you can with the MicroDMX and Control One, as well as flash drives) while using Serato, but yeah, that’s sadly not the same as 100% standalone DVS. Sure, I could tuck away the Serato laptop somewhere, but still would have an additional point of failre, next to have playing ping-pong between two libraries, if I don’t want to pay >200$ subscription/year for Lexicon. So yeah, no real options here for me, “just” Vinyl for now - which is also fine.
My other option is to go daft and buy a radius 2v but then that would be just stupidly excessive lol. TBH I dont mind the challenge of mixing 45s with a Rotary but I would like to tech myself how to cut properly.
Agreed on the S mixers too, easily the best battle mixers out there, also on the subject of motorised jogs, the Rev7 is a beast too, namely because of its S style mixer section.
My issue with the Numark is you can’t use the FX on vinyl. the only 2 ‘cheap’ mixers that allow it are the DJM-S5 (but only through Serato) and the DJM-450 (only works with the expensive Rekordbox Club kit for DVS, which is rubbish anyway)
