Yes we now import and export directly with Engine, whereas last year I think that wasn’t possible. It’s worth noting that beatgrids are the single most complicated aspect of library migration, since they are generally built on the fly and built differently in each software! So just get in touch with our support (just email us) if you have any issues. Good luck!
@MIXO_DJ Is the latest version of MIXO ready for the new Engine database obtained with the V4.1 release?
@MIXO_DJ I saw on your support forum that version 1.76 should be compatible with Engine DJ V4.1.
However, when I try to import the library, it gets stuck on “Parsing data” without exiting. I have a free account on your site, I tried to write on the support forum, but it doesn’t let me write anything, maybe I need to have a paid account?
Just in case anybody is listening, I’d be very happy to pay for software that provided these features, however, I refuse to pay monthly for any software.
Perpetual license or bust. Sure, charge again at major version upgrades, but that should only happen every two years or so.
A good example is Sublime Text. I’ve been using that software for over 10 years, and I’ve had to purchase three licenses over that timespan (~75USD each), Sublime Text 2, Sublime Text 3 and now Sublime Text 4.
I’m also someone who doesn’t do subscriptions. I’d much rather pay a flat fee for a piece of software and pay again on a major version upgrade. I get people don’t mind paying and that’s fine but it’s only my personal choice and if you so like to sub, that’s cool.
£5 a month isn’t the end of the world that’s still £60 per year for something that ends when you stop it. Yes, there’s value to be had from some products but give me an option to buy outright any day.
It does although slightly less than Lexicon does
both are great products.
If only Engine supported VDJ import as well as they do Itunes/Serato/Rekordbox, then I’d not need Lexicon every now and again. (and I know it’s down to popularity, but I suspect there is quite a large number of DJ’s using VDJ on Denon Engine Kit)
True. But if you want some features that you can’t get with Engine DJ, then you have to compromise. Consider that Lexicon costs significantly more than MIXO, of course it does some more things, but you have to consider whether those extra things it does are useful for your workflow and whether those extra things are good or just messy.
I use VDJ occasionally just to have STEMs. For other functions I find it easier and more precise to use Engine.
For example to edit the track grid or to put anchors to the grid with variable BPM, I find that Engine DJ is definitely superior to any other software (VDJ, Lexicon, MIXO): with EDJ I can also stop the track and slide it forward/backward while listening to the audio and hear exactly where the beat is and I can place my anchor on it. Instead Lexicon and MIXO you can stop the track but you can’t slide it while keeping the listening active (I mean as if you were scratching).
I would suggest from speaking to people there is a lot of sub / cancel /sub cancel.
I think if the fee were lower, it would just be sub for a year or buy it.
