Maybe it is my obsessive compulsive tendancies, but I would expect to be able to adjust to the level of decimal points as is displayable. Just show to the nearest .1 if you can’t be more exact.
To solve I found I can set sync to only affect tempo, and I can move the fader to the rough ball park, and doubke press the sync button.
I have been told using the sync button is a slippery slope, so have been doing much more beat matching practice by ear now, and maybe 0.1 bpm is an acceptable difference (I get a bigger difference up until now, but that is my target!)?
Bare in mind I am taking the same 16 beats of the same track, setting both of their bpm off by varying amounts and closing my ears to feel the music and try get them to be in phase.
It would be amazing if 100% was achievable, but even trying to do this with eyes is not. It will always be up to 0.09bpm out. Only being able to nudge the pitch fader.
I wish I could use the pitch bend/range to increment micro amounts (0.01 bpm).
Btw, I did change nudge sensitivity to be all the way down, but then this same setting also affects the jog wheels.
I would suggest not focusing so much of your time on those two values being that exact. Sometimes tracks are lined up perfectly in the mix (by ear) but the BPM values don’t match, that means obsessing over what a screen is telling you will only result in a bad mix.
Understand and agree. But for exactly the same track, exactly the same bar, it is impossible to reach 100%, so in the wild we have human error, plus machine error.
Being able to have precise control is what is important. I don’t care about the absolute number on the bpm indicator, I care about the ability to control the machine exactly to the level of my ears.
This is simply a callibration / test exercise. To be fair with enough practice and honing in on my nudging technique, I can usually get to an acceptable level with the same track. Being aware of the mechanics of the machine you are using can only be a good thing.
I agree that I should let go and accept some flaws while there is nothing to do about them though.
Genius. I tried that and it solves it. I hardly ever need a drastic bpm shift. I only really use it for a bit of goofing around transitions, but for that I can shift + up to 100% and then back to default 4%
