M3U file import

Not sure if the dev’s read this but it would be really great if I didn’t have to drag M3U files into Serato or other competing products before dragging those tracks from serato to a new playlist in Engine. Seems like importing an M3U playlist into a music organizing software should be a pretty basic function.

I’m switching to Denon this year and holy smokes how is this not a function? I use Vibo to collect all my music for weddings and it exports that specific section as an m3u file. Drag and Drop. This is super weird that you can export an m3u but not import? I don’t like that at all.

Have you seen any updates on this yet? Still no M3U import feature?

Just found this today… I just didn’t think that this is not possible! :man_facepalming:t2: Day by day I just find another bad thing about this app. After 1 year with Denon I am so sorry I didn’t bought CDJs!

I’m sorry that you assumed

Still, there are several ways to bring M3Us and other playlists and databases from other apps to Engine. Not the end of the world

I know, I did that. But a drag and drop, or “import” option was much better! This is not the only problem with the app, so…

Great! Life finds a way!

So, it’s the usual advice:

• Search the forum requests list to see if anyone else has requested this feature

• if they have, add one of your 10 user votes to their existing request form by clicking the “Vote” button at the top of their request.

• If no one has requested this function yet, then submit your request on the forum request form

• take a patient seat - remember the software is supplied free and there are hundreds of requests made before this one.

• it might happen, it might not

Free? It’s part of the system! When paid 3320 Euro on 2 players, I don’t consider it’s free! Especialy because if you don’t have it, the system would be more slow and editing tags, comments, etc, with just the hardware is impossible… and no one would like that! So is not free, it’s a package! And yeah life finds a way, but not on my money! :joy: If it was really free then I wouldn’t complain!

As a pair of players is easily valued at over that figure, especially with firmware updates the Engine software doesn’t need to be considered as being any monetary slice of that figure.

My question to this would always be, which other DJ software/hardware vendor integrates the DB of competing products into their workflow? Im fairly certain the ‘bought CDJs’ company dont.

Ok, everyone has their own opinions, these are mine and I’m not the only one with these opinions! On the other hand, I also deal with electronics and I assure you that the value of this equipment also includes the cost of the software and future updates! When the value is exceeded, costs will arise! Stop deluding yourself that you are getting something for free from a company whose goal is profit! Not being able to import a playlist that you export with the same software is embarrassing, because that’s where the discussion started and this is where I’ll stop with it! Happy days! Good luck at gigs!

Does this logic apply to all brands? even those who don’t traditionally provide future updates? And if so, how does that logic work between the two.

If i have 2 products i paid RRP for, one gets 25 new features (about the amount my Prime 2 has been given) and the other doesn’t get any (about the amount the XDJ-RX2 has been given), how can your statement above be applied fairly to each item, without calling the ones on the Prime 2 ‘free’?

Promise ? Really?

I am the OP on this thread and just got back to reading the comments. Like another post said, I too use Vibo. Vibo scans your music library and creates m3u playlists of client requests that (in serato) you can easily turn into a crate. Much the same way you can in VDJ, Recordbox and others. Heck, you can even drag a m3u into VLC media player. It seems like a pretty basic function that most if not all other media players have. For the Vibo users, it would just be a huge time saver. It has nothing to do with allowing competing products to interact. m3u files have been around since 1996 as the defacto standard for media playlists.

Yes but you don’t get it… it’s “free” so that’s it! Stop conplaining! :joy: Drag the m3u in RB, then export the database, then activate RB database in Engine, then import the playlist from exported RB database… easy! Life finds a way! And it’s free! :joy: See? I can be sarcastic too! Anyway, I’m not a fan of any brand! Criticism helps development in general. The problem in the software exists. If it doesn’t affect you, it’s ok, but don’t try to convince those who encounter it that it’s not a problem! And yes, I’ll stop fighting with the brand’s fans! Soon!

As far as I understand your issue, and I also would be happy to see m3u support, I have to disagree with this statement, you made:

No, criticism does not help development.

Constructive criticism does.

Complaints and criticism will not do anything. Offer a suggestion on how would be the best way to implement the feature that you want. Maybe you have a certain workflow idea in mind, maybe you can offer some ideas of implementation, or how to code it? Maybe you know all the issues that are in coding the M3U file support? All the info we can provide to developers that potentially can help them in development of the feature we want, definitely can speed things up, and show them, that we deserve to be heard. Not just chanting I WANT THIS NOW, but rather constructive and open discussion. And talks like “Because he has this and I don’t” is not helping anyone, it’s just food for trolls and bullies.

As far as I understand your proposed solution, I’m doing nearly the same thing now only it’s much easier than your proposed solution. I open serato, drag in the m3u which instantly becomes a crate. Open Engine DJ next to serato, highlight the tracks in the newly formed Serato crate and drag them into a new crate in Engine. It sounds pretty much the same as you propose with recordbox. The point of my original post is that: it would be nice if I didn’t have to use a competing product to get tracks from an m3u into Engine.

I was sarcastic bro. I also wish I don’t have to use third party software.
