Lord have mercy - Serato acquired by AlphaTheta Corporation

Is that Luis Serano?

If so, I bought one of his early handmade controllers. …at the time it was cheaper to jump on a Ryanair flight to Zaragosa in Spain to pick the controller up personally, rather than have it couriered to me in the U.K.

This is huge. Pioneer (GULP).

Not a bad way to pick a parcel up either, couple of cheeky days in a hotel to wait for it to be finished, or at least thats what the other half needs to know

Atc will keep the status quo for at least for the next five years. You don’t buy over something just to disband it. That’s the best way to lose in your investment btw.

Usually when there’s a take over such as this the occupier usually wants to continue in a profitable manner until the return on investment is recouped. First thing that mostly happens is the reduction in staff then work on assimilation into an ecosystem. This takes awhile to happen but it will.

This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time LOL

That’s the guy.

Hopefully this means, higher quality Denon gear, better customer service, and standalone Rane gear. Maybe a moog dj mixer. Hybrid analog digital mixer

Im not sure ‘Denon’ or inMusic are the issue here… the quality of their equipment and customer service should be the least of peoples concerns in light of this news.

When I heard about the acquisition I was definitely worried. The club standard bs is just gonna get worse. Pioneer will pretty much have a monopoly on the dj market. Hopefully it results in better products for us. Not saying Denon/InMusic is the issue, I’m just saying that they’re going to have to go even harder now. Especially with build quality and customer support. I would pay top dollar for a sc7000 that was built like a tank and had a 3yr warranty.

Once upon a time….

Rane and Serato were sitting it a tree.

K-I-S-S-I-N-G

First came love then came marriage

Then came the SL1 in a baby carriage.

Rane was instrumental in getting serato where it is today. Unfortunately the stars didn’t seem to align for inmusic to buy it.

The question for InMusic is where this leaves Rane: the Rane 72 is basicly a Serato mixer. So if Serato stops colaborating with Rane (which would make sense), then Rane is left with a MP2015, which is pretty “niche” for a brand to survive…

I imagine this will finally force Rane to use the SDK from NI Traktor to create their own screen implementation or help Algoriddim figure out a screen implementation solution. VirtualDJ already works with the Rane Seventy Two screen.

I don’t see Noritsu having Serato back out of their current hardware licensing agreements. However, they may not move forward with licensing agreements for future products from third parties. It’ll be a good year before we see any evidence of a decision on the consumer side, though.

….and then a switch to subscription only.

The MP2015 is discontinued.

Oh yeah, it’s coming. Make no mistake.

Yeah buy Algoriddim rebrand the app to Engine GO DJ and make a dock style hardware . it could be cost effective to make an ios dock that uses the computing power of the ipad to make the hardware cheaper . imagen a rane one-esk controller dock with motorized platters running Engine GO DJ app.

Yeah if INMusic really want to stick it to the subscription boys ,they make a killer DVS system that has video DJing capacity and make it so that once you buy it you own it! and then under cut!!!

I thought they might do this. There was a reason why they started making the FLX range and Ddj 1000SRts. That reason was never going to be Pioneer giving up on Rekordbox. Kind of ■■■■■, because they have a monopoly now. They are already screwing consumer with the stock issuee, I believe these stock issues are artificial now. The chip shortage is over. It’s one of the reasons why I’ve just moved over to Denon and probably won’t get a pioneer mixer for the first time in 20 years.

The stock issue isn’t artificial, unfortunately. The biggest issue pioneer had hit the entire pronaudio industry. There was a fire at a factory that produced a wide array of DAC’s.

Pioneer also prioritizes it’s highest grossing shops and rental houses over everyone else. So, while your favorite shop might not have stock, a place like Mile High will.
