Lord have mercy - Serato acquired by AlphaTheta Corporation

A good thing imho.

Seeing the comments on Mojaxx video this morning, i can’t get my head around people who are blindly walking into this as if the outcome will be a positive thing for DJs.

They don’t think about silly things like future hardware IP and Softwwrw Trust relationships.

Or Pioneer’s track record for ridiculous pricing and hiding features behind a paywall. Or the fact no company on earth will pay 2 dev teams to develop 2 pieces of software that do the same thing.

These people are the equivalent of the Turkey voting for Christmas.

Maybe serato will be bought by Pioneer parent company, but let’s see what impact it would have. Maybe they won’t abandon other companies. You know, space like new things if old ones disappears

Interesting read
Seems like ATC is avoiding the obvious arguments

I found this a good statement by inMusic:

It is borderline insulting to the Commission and inMusic, as well the entire industry. As a publicly-traded company, ATC’s board of directors has a fiduciary duty to its shareholders. Its true raison d’ĂȘtre is to make money for its shareholders, not please its customers. The Commission should not fall for such pablum.

All companies have this goal. InMusic as well. Even hospitals.

:eyes: Hmmm, thought-provoking?

My fantasy is that we would get a requirement that controllers are provided with drivers so they are cross-platform capable and they are iOS class-compliant. Dream on

What do you mean exactly?

Yeah, sort of similar to forcing pre-built PC companies and Microsoft to allow other browsers and media playback software in Windows completely unencumbered instead of being limited to Internet Explorer and Media Player.

Delayed until April now. lol.

To be precise, April 17!

There’s obviously some sticking points in the case isn’t there, interesting that its taking so long to reach a decision.

Not seen the video (if its an update to his original) but certainly I don’t see this ending well per say unless as others have described previously Denon/Engine realise the full potential of their own software to compete but yes i agree to just go along for the ride believing all is well is highly questionable to me

The real question is, will this delay the Rane performer release again?

Do you not think they are doing that? the added features my Prime 2 has received since i bought it has a list as long as my arm, at least 20 things.

He did say software i.e. Engine DJ. I don’t think it needs to be turned into performance software (because the Prime units are standalone) but being able to access streaming services for prep in Engine DJ would be massive.

i wouldn’t go as far as to say the full potential is realised, but yes the additions to the software are welcomed and have vastly improved the workflow and as a denon customer I can only give props to the Denon/Engine team for what they have done, the battle is far from over however, I wonder having watched DDJT yesterday if Engines features to a point have also been it’s undoing in getting exiting pro djs to move across?

From posts I have seen on here some may agree adding new features whilst not fully refining existing features could be more hinderance than help.
