Lord have mercy - Serato acquired by AlphaTheta Corporation

I dont feel too off the mark in thinking that pioneer bought serato rights purely to kill off, (or perhaps with more of a gentle timeline… fly serato into a mountain”) to give pioneers own DVS alternative more of a market share.

I therefore wouldn’t be at all surprised if the currently discussed next 4 or 5 future models from any manufacturer have good ol’ serato “support” but after that …??

The only thing to counter that would be the fact it would make little business sense to take out a portion of their market that don’t want to own Pioneer products, companies like earning money, reducing that money is never sensible.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but if they did do that. i would never purchase another Pioneer product or software again.

I tried to make that point already a couple of times: for example half of the feature request forum are unrealistically complex things to develop and use, while the other half gets no attention, because they seem to be too simple to matter. But often improvement is in the little things: apart from a few rough edges, the Prime platform is already wonderful thing. Sadly, those rough edges get a lot less attention than they deserve, in favor for big unrealistic or useless dreams.

The funny thing is that Denon likes to jump on those wild ideas too, because it markets very good to wannabe DJs, but the real improvements, which actually have no value to the marketing department at all (“wow, this player lets you set a CUE point while holding the platter, even when in play mode!”), they don’t have development resources left.

But, every time I do that reality check, I get called a troll…

I agree with you here, this culture of constant ‘headline grabbing’ features being demanded does get in the way of some minor quality of life stuff. ive put a few requests in recently that fall under the latter and as you say it gains little traction.

I guess at least we’re lucky enough to be using a brand that does actually add stuff and provide regular improvements as opposed to other brands. Id even say my Prime 2 could have been sold as a new machine with the amount of stuff ive received for it since i bought it, Pioneer certainly would have marketed it as such:)

Thats true, although only time will tell if Denon holds on to this promise. In fact they didn’t promise this at all. But as of now, I don’t feel like I’m using a finished product. Well, that’s the main reason I am here, I hope my voice makes a small difference, and I am sure prepared to give them some time. But for all we know, tomorrow they’ll come with Engine 4.0, which is only compatible with Prime 4+ and an imaginary SC7000. But as far I can see, that indeed wont happen…

A friend of mine wanted to try an SC6000, so I was “forced” to take one of my SC5000 out of storage to fill the empty space next to the mixer. Of course immediately updated the firmware. Was still very nice to see all new functions working on that 2017 device. :relieved::sunglasses:

Im hopeful we will see some support for our devices for a while yet:)

I keep eyeing up a 5000 on Ebay to replace my LC-6000 for this exact reason, the SC-6000 screen is too big for my stand as it would hit the wall but the 5000 would slot in there nicely.

Slightly off but on topic. Pioneer started producing the XDJ700 again. No firmware update. No added features to bring it up with the times. Just the exact same player running the same outdated firmware/software selling for a slightly higher price. PioneerDJ is literally on crack.

That’s because you have eyes and look at features/benefits offered on any given model , rather than just happy to blindly buy a badge and whatever tat they come out with again and again, after they’ve just added a couple of buttons, changed the casing colour, or chucked in some free headphones.

Others will just keep blindly buying pioneer whatever they do or don’t do.

That’s one of things I explained on their forum that was possible: everything from the CDJ-2000/900 mk1 on could get several very specific, straightforward improvements that would help their entire legacy line tremendously. Would also obviously be worth adding to the CDJ-3000 and every other playback device since, too. Nothing outrageous or impractical, but they’re still totally uninterested.

I think that the pioneer cdj line up is over priced crap and the same for the single player xdj line up too. Not worth upgrading legacy crap imo

But Pioneer has come up with some interesting things though. I can’t say anything bad about the rev7, xdj-rx3, A9 or their new turntable.

Looks like the crss12 is made for specifically for a club install. Maybe this is how ATC is going to capitalize on their Sar acquisition. By providing, Serato users from all walks of life, ‘club standard gear’. The planning for this unit was done awhile ago and so was the planning for the acquisition.

I will admit the CDJs do have excellent sound quality, but for $2500 per deck? Insanity. Literally a $100 laptop, $100 interface, and certain versions of even VDJ will give you equivalent sound quality (comparing keylock on) or better (comparing keylock off) than the CDJ-3000… and more than one deck. And other software isn’t too far behind, except for maybe the awful-sounding Torq 2.0 :stuck_out_tongue: The old CDJs, though, are also easier to repair than all this new fandangled stuff, but such is the way of things… and we all want new things.

I’d love a Denon Equivalent to the XDJ-700 mind.

A proper review

A sub 1k Numark Engine Media Player would no doubt give the XDJ-700 a run for it’s money.

Just get an SC5000.

Size, and 2nd hand they’re still £600, it’s only for a 3rd deck.

Size.

This PLX-CRSS12 should have been made years ago under inMusic brands. I mean Numark and DenonDJ have all the technologies to bring an even powerfull unit.

They have HID for years since the NS7, the have the hybrid capabilities with the SC3900 and IMO they have the most sturdy tuntable with the VL12…

Sorry to say but for me the Rane 12 is a kinda failure: heavy weight for nothing since it can’t play regular vynils do doesn’t have to deal with rumble/stability, awkward ergonomy (cables placement, cues vs needle search, 3 versions when the last should have been directly the first one…

Numark used to be the most innovative DJ company and Pioneer the lazy big leader, I have to admit the game has completely changed, now Pioneer REALLY designs their new products with many key points in mind (the killer new feature, ergonomy, design, djs feedbacks…etc).

I WANT this PLX-CRSS12 to replace my old beloved TTX and my PHASE !!! It’s a pity, even a shame, there was no hybrid TTX2…

I already have the rev7 for mobile events and a Mixstream Pro GO for small parties. I may just need a portable digital turntable now. I saw a custom digital Stanton STX at SMF event last week, just make a lightweight 10inches version of it (no need for a direct direct drive for this size) with no tonearm and with Engine DJ inside and I’m all in !!! I’m sure all portablists and a lot of turntablists (probably regular djs too) will love it !!!

Last summer there were special Rane 72 + 12s and Denon X1850 + SC6000Ms offerings so maybe a new digital turntable or a all in one motorized controller is around the corner, just hope inMusic makes a real effort on the design/ergonomy.
