I also have drift issues when activating a loop. However, if I am in sync mode then the loops appear to stay more consistently in sync. Otherwise they will drift
Check your beat grids and beat matching. I can have 4 loops on 4 decks in sync without activating sync.
Yea I’ve spent lots of time with the beat grids in engine and came to the conclusion that this isn’t the problem. Analyzed, re-analyzed and modified myself but to no avail.
When sync is used the problem doesn’t occur (at least not as frequent) which makes me think the best grids are not the problem.
I have seen others across the community raise similar issues. Could it be something to do with the tracks themselves?
I use loops all the time in manual mixing and aside from the occasional issue I can’t say I’ve noticed it’s a problem, I also don’t use quantise.
The fact you have no problems at all baffles me more. What players do you use?
What hardware do you use/have?
I use a Prime 2. What tracks specifically are you using? where did you source them from?
Ive found on old disco records they are more likely to drop out of time and you have to perfect the art of choosing the exact right moment of the track to do it. Also the shorter the loop the better in that case, its rare you can set a 16 beat loop on non electronic or even old 90s house and it stays in time.
Bear in mind too that setting a loop then setting the BPM to the same value of the other track is a dangerous game to play, if you done any kind of flexible beat gridding that BPM reading is going to be off so you need to adjust the tempo to match the mix, not just match the BPM.

Yes it definitely could - so when raising issues like this, the best thing you can do is post information on the tracks you’re using. Artist and title minimum, but potentially which mix as well.
As Stu mentioned, tracks don’t always have a beat that stays constant. Generally, the older the track, the more likely there will be variations in tempo.
Human drummers, tape machine drift, tape edits, off centre vinyl, even inaccurate clocks in drum machines and sequencers - can all contribute.
Thankfully the day has come where tech can help out, but it’s not available on every DJ platform yet.

My fix was never to use Engine DJ again, unfortunately. Denon are nailing it with the hardware but until they improve the software I just can’t work with it. Back to Rekordbox for me (which is the lesser of two evils)!
