I would like to se more tools integrated in Engine DJ to maintain the library. Smart clean up tools, editing, search for duplicates eg.
I hope that Inmusic will buy Beatunes some day and integrate all the library functions into EngineDJ
Welcome to the club.
Let us pray. Oh, we’re waiting for a new Pope.
Meanwhile, Lexicon released a new version with djay Pro support in Beta.
So, free Engine should have features found on “paid for” DJ software ?
Maybe what InMusic should offer is:
.
• Free Engine DJ (with its existing features)
• Paid for Engine DJ (with many other enhanced features)
Honestly, I wouldn’t expect that. Engine DJ desktop worked great for four+ years. Something went awry with sync all of a sudden with 4.1. Syncing with Lexicon solved the issue for me.
I actually like the file/playlist management with Engine and beatgridding was mostly ok coupled with Ableton Live warping.
Sadly, nothing is perfect.
But you can’t use the controller as standalone without the software. That’s the hook for buying in to the Denon ecosystem.
Lexicon exports to Engine OS directly for controllers, frankly, better than Engine DJ desktop. Technically, you don’t need Engine DJ desktop to still use Denon Prime players as standalone. But Lexicon is an added expense that you shouldn’t need for the Engine Prime ecosystem. But, it does give you the benefit to easily swap between other platforms. I’d never expect Engine DJ to offer that.
Yes, but unfortunately (sometimes) Lexicon messes with your Engine database. It happened to me. So I trust Engine more to manipulate my database.
Yes, not feeling confident loading directly anymore… to much work to get everything sorted out again
Yes, Lexicon did have those issues but Christiaan fixed them quickly.
I absolutely agree, the less software involved, the better. Unfortunately, after using 4.1 for a while I hit a sync roadblock. I was stuck. I wish I had stayed at 4.0.
See this….
Not fun and very time consuming… laptops fans on full speed for hours! Would be very nice with one software for everything and Lexicon have som really nice features… the watch folder, recipes, auto cue/loop. Not all perfect but a great help and time saving. I work and add files in Lexicon and then sync to Engine before syncing to my controller and Dropbox, that’s what I find works for me and feels stable.
If you want a free alternative (which I am using for years now …)
Go for Mixxx - Free DJ Mixing Software App (runs on Windows / Linux / iOS and fully customizable)
Version 2.5.1 supports export to Engine OS database format +4.1
Awesome, that could have been another choice for me. I went with Lexicon DJ based on its new support for Algoriddim djay Pro.
This is the great thing about our Denon players. We have at least four choices for library management which support export (sync) for our players. Mixxx (free), Mixo (paid), Lexicon DJ (paid) and Engine DJ (free). Only Engine DJ supports the Engine stems paradigm.
Awesome I will definitely check Mixx, thanks for the advice
DJ.Studio is also worth looking at.
I have DJ Studio, but haven’t really used it much. I do know that it doesn’t export whole libraries, beatgrids and cues to Engine DJ desktop or Engine OS for Denon/Numark units. It’s really more of a scaled down DAW.
Fair. The playlist creator’s pretty cool. I’d really like just that as a stand alone app tbh.
MIXXX exports all performance data CUES, LOOPS … compatible with Denon / Numark. Personally using the Numark Mixstream Pro and GO.
No problems detected so far…
