Hi folks, my laptop gave up on me this week and I’ve had to install a new hard drive. Foolishly, I’ve not backed my stuff up.
Thankfully, my entire library was exported to a USB stick and I’ve now recovered my 4,000 tracks.
Any idea how I go about replicating my crates/folders/playlists onto a new version of engine to mirror what’s currently on my USB?
Thanks in Advance

If it’s a spinning rust drive, you can try to recover it with SpinRite. Worth a shot.

Spinrite was a great tool, but does it even run under modern OS as I didn’t think Steve Gibson updated that past windows 98?

Thanks for the replies. I’ve added a new hard drive to the laptop, recovered my tracks and installed engine on the laptop.
I’d just like some guidance on how/if I can restore the folder structure/ playlists etc onto this new (blank) version of engine.
The USB stick still contains the folder structure as it was pre crash.
Can I import this from USB into engine?
Hey @Don76 ,
As best of my knowledge to replicate your crates, folders and playlists onto a new version of Engine DJ, you can Install Engine DJ on your new hard drive then Insert your USB stick and open Engine DJ. Use the “Import” feature to bring in your library from the USB stick. This should include your tracks, crates, folders and playlists as they were previously organized.
This process will help you mirror your previous setup on your new hard drive.
Thanks

6.1 came out a few months ago, and runs under UEFI just fine. Still runs under freedos and now supports SSDs

Quick update… I can import my library and playlists from USB into engine.
However, when I remove the USB, engine is then empty.
Is there a way to have engine as the primary source without the need for the USB?
I have all the tracks saved onto the C Drive
Have you tried putting your old laptop drive into a USB enclosure to copy your source library?

I’ve had the hard drive at the local independent PC repair man. He’s had it on his bench for 3 days and unable to recover anything from it.
So I’m starting again from the laptop side with the engine dj export copy (that I’ve got plugged into the decks) from old laptop on the usb.

First thing - copy everything in the USB stick to another place eg folder on the laptop , another drive, cloud.
I have never tried this, but seen/read it on this forum a couple of times -
Try copying the engine database folder from the USB stick to the laptop? You would want to copy it to Music folder on laptop C drive.
Then eject the usb
Start Engine DJ.
Logic tells me, it should start with all your files showing as missing ie red but it may start without such
You can try the relocate file function
Those “PC” repair guys rarely use good tools like Spinrite.
■■■■■ to hear you didn’t have a backup though. It’s like the #1 sin!
I had something similar a while ago. And I was able to fix a lot by doing SQL queries on the database.
I was able to recover my cue points, loops etc from the prime 4 database to my laptop database.
