Interesting stream from DigitalDJTips.
Good find..
If you, like me find it “challenging” to watch Phil talk for any length of time I can save you some time.
Yes, it is OK to use Engine DJ. Yes, I get paid to use Engine DJ at gigs. It’s not for hobby. It’s not for sheep.
Exactly. IMHO it means something new is coming and he’s priming the consumers for it.
Edit: I like when he mentions they “we give away from all brands because they are our friends”, that kids means the brands have provided promotional items in exchange for advertising, even in the school. It’s how business works LOL
I am in the same boat
Yeah, it’s super painful to watch Phils videos. And every time pushing his dj courses… he really is overdoing it…
Wowzers, I knew sooner or later my views and the views of more than the dozen or so forum members who regularly have a similar view point to my own, would expand to a wider selection, and this is one of those moments.
I’ve found that digi dj tips , and that shorter DJ named guy (DJ Mojo?) with the DJ City connection peaked during covid (captive audience) but have become less and less relevant in their scripts, more and more talking adverts, less and less “on the neutral fence” , more and more predictable in their bias, and their videos wreaking of “paid to preach”
Keen to flog their own wares , get their channel subscribed to, flog their book, -
it’s painful and cringeworthy to watch - it’s Dad having a quick dance on the nightclub dancefloor when he’s only supposed to be there to give his daughter and her friend a ride home
Or, like one of those old National TV location reporters in their shirt, tie and jacket, sent out of their depth to report on the Punk, Mods and Rockers gathering at the local seaside town
Mojaxx is a legit DJ though, massive music knowledge and great tunes.
Mojaxx is one of the last standing real djs, who doesn’t sell you the product, but really reviews it. Sometimes very briefly, but mostly with honest opinion.
Phill on the other hand is in my opinion too aggressive with his advertisement. I had to unsubscribe 3 times from his emails, and still get some spam about his amazing dj courses. Also the way he presents anything started to be super scripted and commercialized to the bone. The human part seem to got lost in his videos. Shame that Ean Golden is not making any new vids - his tutorials and reviews, were “golden” back in the days.
Yeah the Spam emails are annoying definitely, i like Phil though as a person.
I guess they are just trying to earn a living like the rest of us and it can come across as pushy.
Its Crossfader who i rarely bother with these days, they dont come across as that impartial.
Crossfader stopped being legit since pioneer started ordering them what to do. I seen the big turnaround in their behaviour towards other brands from the day they made a blind test of cdj3000 vs sc6000. And when denon came on top, pioneer sat on their heads… then crossfader guys started to be way more biased than ever
They can both read on the forum and these comments.
I still stand by my last comment about Phil on another topic.
I just like Mojaxx’s style of reviewing. Objective and clear enough for me, from tha heart and giving genuine advice.
Anyone who can post bangin 5 hour long 7" record sets is more than good enough to provide a solid opinion on gear imo.
I think both of them are good sources of info for any gear purchase decisions, and lets be honest if more people bothered to watch them, we would get rid of half of the complaints on this forum as people would actually know what they were buying before spending lots of cash on a supposed disappointment.
The one thing i do find nuts, if you look at DJWORX, Crossfader, DDJT and Mojaxx, they are/were the 4 main sources of gear reviews and have been for donkeys, and all have a strong connection to the North of England. Mojaxx lives in Newcastle, DJWORX a village in the Yorkshire dales, Crossfader based in Leeds and Phil from Manchester.
There were a few from the southern parts back in the early days when DJs were just reviewing their own purchases on YouTube, when video reviews and tutorials were a new idea.
…then it started getting commercial.
Yeah the tube of you is big business these days isn’t it.
Sc6000 are the best, cdj3000 are good players but way overpriced. Can’t wait for next gen Denon players (better platters, faster cpu, more Ram…)
The only negative point is the software that don’t automatically sync with itunes or Other software.
In what specific ways do you think these would help, compared to current models - be really specific
To name a few:
- Overall better UI experience / better touch event responses
- Speeding up search (with the current schema)
- Faster track loading times (requires a 1GbE NIC for remotely mounted storage)
- Faster track previews (requires a 1GbE NIC for remotely mounted storage)
- Reduced / eliminated animation jank on:
- Song waveforms
- UI Navigation elements
- Scrolling song lists
- Needle dropping
- Faster boot up & shutdown sequences
- Faster mounted device switching
- Speedier encoder responses
- Faster data transfers when using internally mounted SSDs
I’ll refrain from continuing.
Yeah one thing that really bugs me about the Prime Go+ is how long it takes to boot up. Surely with a battery on board it could stay in a suspended state for instant boot?
I think one of the key points would be real support for 1Gbps on network connections.
I don’t even understand why this can’t already be the case on existing hardware.
It would already solve a huge number of fluidity problems to remove the 100Mbps limitation for players.
