It’s a PUBLIC beta. The team are ready for this. The exact reason why we have Public & Private beta’s.

the stems beta does not sound “terrible”. people can put up music without stems and it sound like rubbish  . the stems is BETA. we have already heard how it sounds but it’s also good to hear more people using this for different types of music. i had a small gig on monday and i used the stems – and it was fine. no one frowned or got upset. they grooved to the music.

do you even have a 4+? if you dont, then you don’t have a dog in the race.

Im not sure anyone who sits behind a hidden profile should be making comments like this, a touch farcical i would say.

amen brother

I feel like i’m the only one guy who is not hyped about stems separation. I prefer do fast decks loading on file-stem method, sometimes.

In fact it all depends on what is your reference base from which you form an opinion on stems.

If your reference base is rekordbox and its disastrous separation quality I think it’s normal that it doesn’t really excite you.

If your reference base is the Serato/VDJ separation quality (which is quite comparable and of very high quality) then I think you don’t realize how much this can be a massive contribution in terms of creativity but also in terms of “cleanliness” during your transitions

Yeah, this is it for me - I could possibly see myself doing mashups in the future, but I’m much more interested in the possibility for slick mixes. Currently we approximate by using freuency based EQs, but if we could explicitly (say) drop out the vocals and replace percussion, there’s a potential for really interesting mixes. Add onto that the idea of applying filters or FX just to one stem and it starts to sound really incredible!

I think that this is clearly where stems are interesting, much more than just the possibility of making mashups with the vocals of a song A on the instrumental of a song B (even if most DJs will probably use them that way).

For example, I got into the habit of cutting the bassline of the outgoing song at the exact moment when the bassline of the incoming song starts in order to free up space in the low end of the spectrum and avoid frequency conflicts. And in most cases this makes the transitions much cleaner even if sometimes keeping the bassline of the previous song by cutting the bass to the maximum on the EQ can bring something.

I think that you have to know how to use both the EQ and the stems depending on the situation to get the best of both.

Development of the Prime 4+ is a snooze fest, they don’t know how to keep us updated on progress

I see, it’s cool to mix more creative, sometimes on complex setups and with many parameters it can sounds like another original track or remix. Speaking about converting old school Riddim into Drum&Bass you can switch to Drums stem with Echo FX at 1 beats, 3/2 beats. It worked for me when I change 1 beat to 3/2 beat of echo per 2 second during mix for that specific drums. On the other deck I loop drops from cue points with fader echo to do smooth transition between different saved loops.
