I Replaced the SC5000 play/cue buttons with SC6000 parts

So I got my players back from the tech-guy and man, it’s great. I hunted down 2 sets of play/cue replacement buttons for the SC6000/LC6000, they fit the 5000s without any issue. Took me a lot of time, effort and money, they are hard to find.

The new buttons feel really good, they have slightly more travel so muscle memory seems off a bit at first but you get used to it really quick.

The tech also completely cleaned the players from the inside and outside, lots of dust but no beverages, and they are now faster than ever before. It’s really noticeable when scrolling and loading tracks.

I would HIGHLY recommend people with these players send them to a tech for deep cleaning. I don’t know why but it just makes them run smooth again.

All 'n all I spent about 350 euros on this repair/service. Most of that was labour cost, postage and gas (european gas prices, eh?). The buttons were about 70 euros total. I’m fine with that, i have some gigs lined up and should make that back easily.

I also repaired the broken plastic from the original buttons. This is quite easy: place them on a flat surface, add liquid super glue to the broken connection, then reinforce that spot with a tiny piece (3x5 mm) of TOILET PAPER (1 plie). The fibres bond with the glue. Add another drop of glue on top of that, let it all dry, turn the block of buttons around and place 1 drop of super glue on the other side of the connection. The buttons feel great and very sturdy after that.

I have a pair of SC6000s but honestly I’m fascinated by the SC5000 jog wheel, feels way more ergonomic and less error prone due to the angle of the side platter. It’s way easier to touch the top platter accidentally on the SC6000

Whoever got these in 2017 REALLY got their money’s worth.

Almost 10 years of updates with new capabilities. Honestly, my only regret because I wanted to pick up one and use double layer for club gigs where instead of laptop, soundcard and a pair of single deck controllers I could rock with just this.

Im thinking about selling my lc6000 and buying a used sc5000. Just waiting to find a deal. Only seeing sc5000m atm

That’s indeed the one of the few points where I prefer the OG Prime 4 and SC5000 over the successors. For the sake of even bigger surface platters that nicely sloped pitch-bend rim got reduced in effective size. I also think it looks worse. For me, having some silver elements (for contrast) is nothing bad. Why going all black in already dark environments. Same for the Auto-Loop Encoders (they are not illuminated on the P4 units) or Pitch Slider cap. Same for the LED feedback, a bit too much reduced in some areas, imho.

Anyway, cool repair mod, chapeau. I probably would have sold my units before investing 350€, but on the other hand it is great to see these babies getting treated well. :victory_hand:

@Sharatak, I have just bought these, I paid about 1100 euros for the pair  . That was significanlty under the regular 2nd hand prices in Europe, so I’m fine with this repair costing about 350. They really are my babies, haha. I play out with them at bar gigs where it’s usually all-vinyl, It’s been all good.

Keep the tension knob turned down to minimum on them, otherwise it will shed plastic dust inside. Maybe if you put some grease on it that’d not be as much of an issue.

Just spoke the tech guy, he took care of that, greased the part a little indeed, @Reticuli
