How to trigger TR8S to start with Sc6000 play button?

Hello Everyone,

I recently decided to add a Roland TR8S to my SC6000’s and X1850 setup. I would like to have the X1850 be the master MIDI clock and send that information to external hardware like the TR8S. I do know how to turn MIDI send on from the X1850 and it does play the correct BPM, but this requires the TR8S to be started independently and for manual adjustments to be made inorder to sync them together.

What I would like to do is have the MIDI send both BPM and a start signal so that both the SC6000 and the drum machine start in time with each other. Ideally, I would like to press play on one of the 6000’s and have everything start together.

I have read that Ableton Link can do this, however the TR8S does not seem to be compatible with Ableton Link. I do have Ableton on a laptop and I want to know if sending MIDI from the X1850 to Ableton and then from Ableton to the TR8S will allow me to start both a Media Player and Ableton (and linked hardware) at the same time.

I do apologize in advance if this question is not clear, has already been covered in another thread, or if there is a better location on this website to ask this question. I do appreciate any advice anyone has to offer. Thank you.

If You have ableton connected, make it receive abelton link from the SC6000 instead of X1850’s midi clock and pass the midi to TR8S. So the chain would be like this: SC6000 > Ableton link > Ableton on computer > Translation to midi via usb > Midi clock via USB to TR8S.

You could also try some iOS apps that claim to be able to translate Link to Midi
