I press the sync button in Prime 4+ but nothing happens in Virtual DJ. I had the same problem with Serato.
What are you expecting to happen? The sync in VDJ only sets the BPM of the ‘sync’ deck to the same as the other deck. It doesn’t keep the beatgrids in time with each other.
In other DJ software, sync is either on or off (it latches). In VDJ there’s no sync latch. It’s momentary, just matching the BPM figures.
When you’ve chosen to run your prime 4 in standalone mode, it won’t send any signal to virtual DJ or Serato or any DJ software for that matter.
I think I figure it out. For once I was expecting some kind of indicator in the software other than the tempo numbers matching (May be the button in the software change color). Second I was trying to understand what modes where available for sync and if they are any indicators. (From my testying there is none othewr that to pay attention to the tempo indicator.)
Example:
Beat match - When you trigger the song only will play on tempo (Does not seem to be available from the testing) Tempo match - Tempo will be match but you can trigger the song at any time. Useful when you have a song with incorrect analysys. (From my testing it gets trigger when you press the sync botton Sync disable - You can control the tempo separate from the Master track (Only available when moved the pitch in the direction of the ajustment.)
I do like that you can switch or lock the master but it took me a bit to find.
You are correct, and if you go to controller mode you loose all access to the setting section on the Prime 4+. It is important to have all the right setting ready ahead of time. I find that anoying specifically with the mic settings. Also the ability to change the input on the zone output is not avalable. It just become another output for the main. Which is useful but limited.
I was asking because I was not able to find any documentation other than presets for the sync.
In reality, the device’s internal settings only affect operation in standalone mode. When you switch to controller mode, the settings defined in your software take over.
VDJ also has other synchronization modes besides simple BPM synchronization, such as beatlock mode (which I recommend only enabling on the master deck if you use it). Enabling global quantization also has an impact. If it’s enabled, VDJ will tend to start playing your track in time and on the nearest beat, for example, whereas quantization in Engine doesn’t affect playback (except for hot cues).
