Help I can't switch from Stems BETA to Engine

Help. when I turn om my Prime 4+, it says BETA Version do not use in live environment. How do I switch it to use latest Engine software

Hi Sanj,

I do not own a Prime 4+ and Iā€™m not familiar with the Beta version, so Iā€™m not sure, if I can help you. But canā€™t you simply install the latest Engine OS? The current version is 4.2.0. You can download it from the download page for your Prime 4+:

In this version you should also have the released stems feature.

I have the latest version installed on my laptop but I canā€™t seem to install it on my Prime 4+ Ive had the unit for nearly a year and Iā€™ve only used it twice. Can anyone give me step by step (old man friendly) instructions of how to switch from beta to Engine 4.2.1

Yes, that is the Engine DJ library software. The software of your Prime 4+ is called Engine OS. Your OS is the older Beta version, but you can update it to the latest version. There are several ways of doing this (but I donā€™t know if the Beta supports updating over Wi-Fi).

The following way to update the OS I know from my SC6000M players and the Live 4, it should work for the Prime 4+ too, step by step:

  1. Go to the download page:
  1. On the right side, under OS, where it says select your device, select the Denon DJ Prime 4+.

  2. Download the updater file, depending on your laptop, for Windows or Mac. The Windows updater file is Prime 4 Plus 4.2.0 Updater.exe, for example.

  3. Launch the downloaded Installer/Updater file on your laptop.

  4. Connect your Prime 4+ to the laptop with a USB cable. The SC6000M has a blue USB cable for this, probably it is the same for the Prime 4+. Switch on you Prime 4+.

  5. On the Prime 4+, swipe down the menu from the top of the screen. If you have not used the Prime 4+ so often, this may be new to you, there is a menu that becomes visible if you swipe one finger from the top of the display to the bottom. There go to Settings.

  6. In Settings, go to the About/Update tab. Find Update Firmware, it should have a button labelled Reboot. Tap on it. On the Prime 4+ you should now see a window asking How do you want to update? Choose Computer. And then the Prime 4+ will enter update mode, the screen will probably show a large Engine DJ Text and a microchip icon.

  7. On your laptop, click the Start Update button in the Installer window. While the update is being installed, do not turn off the power. After the installation the Prime 4+ reboots. And welcome to the future!

I hope that this helps you and that all goes well. There is also a helpful YouTube video, which shows the other update methods as well:

About the version numbers: The Engine DJ library software (on your laptop) is currently at version 4.2.1, the Engine OS on the players (like the Prime 4+) is at version 4.2.0.

P.s. And maybe some of the other Beta users can confirm this or correct it if something is different in the Beta version.

It depends on how old the Engine OS beta version installed is, but you can anytime install a non-beta version on the unit to override it.

There are several ways to do that:

  • Update via wi-Fi
  • Update via USB drive
  • Update in Firmware mode via connected computer

/hi can someone tell me where the installer window is on the Engine software on the laptop. Iā€™m currently at point 7 above

On the laptop there is no installer window in Engine DJ, your library software. The installer is a separate program, which you can download for your specific player, like the Prime 4+.

With the Prime 4+ connected to your laptop, the installer updates the operating system on the player. This is its only purpose. Engine DJ on the laptop is not needed for this.

Follow steps 1 to 4 of my last post to get the installer or updater program.

I hope that this is what you wanted to know.

If you want to update Engine DJ on the laptop, download the latest version here:

The current version of Engine DJ for your laptop is 4.2.1.

To everyone, Thank you for your help. Iā€™ve managed to download the software. My laptop says I have version 4.2.1 but my prime 4+ say itā€™s 4.2.0, When I swipe the screen down on the unit the stems icon is not showing. Iā€™m so sorry but Iā€™ve had this unit 11 months and have still not used it so anyhelp is appreciated

4.2.0 is for the device. 4.2.1 is for the computer. No need for any update.

Yes, that is ok. Engine DJ on the laptop is at version 4.2.1 and the players have their operating system at version 4.2.0. Everything is fine here.

I do not have a Prime 4+, but on my SC Live 4 and on the SC6000M players I have to be logged in with my Engine DJ profile to use stems. You can find yours here:

https://enginedj.com/account/profile

On the Prime 4+, connect to your Wi-Fi, there should be an option to use your Engine DJ profile. On my players there came a pop-up that told me that an update is available for stems, maybe you will see it too, click on ā€œGot it!ā€. The players then asked for a reboot ā€¦

After that, to use stems, prepare them first in the Engine DJ software on your laptop. Then export the tracks through the Sync Manager to your Prime 4+, if it has an internal drive, or to a USB stick and use that. The stems do not have to be exported, they will be sent with the tracks.

When your USB stick is ready, connect it to your Prime 4+. Load a track with stems, there should be a stems icon in the playlist. There is a button Hot Cue, hit it once or twice (I donā€™t know) and you should get 4 pads for stems control.

Dear Parysatis, Thank you and everyone for your help. I will try this again tonight and let you know what happens. Itā€™s great to be part of this community

Hello again I switched on my Prime 4+ with it connected to my laptop. Both laptop and unit says latest versions installed. 4.2.1 and 4.2.0 respectively

However when go into the settings on the prime 4+ the stems icon is not there.

On the laptop when I have right clicked a track and selected create stems it says ā€œerror dutring stems processing. The rendering of oneor more of your files has failedā€¦ā€

The error during stems rendering could be caused by incompatible files. Check that the tracks are stems-compatible:

Stems Rendering:

11025, 44100, 48000, 88200, and 96000 Hz

Here is the full list from the Engine DJ manual:

File Formats Lossless: WAV 16-32 bit, 44.1k ā€“ 192k AIFF 16-32 bit, 44.1k ā€“ 192k FLAC, ALAC

Compressed: MP3 32 kbit/s ā€“ 320 kbit/s + VBR/CBR M4A/AAC MP4 OGG Vorbis

Stems Rendering: 11025, 44100, 48000, 88200, and 96000 Hz

However when go into the settings on the prime 4+ the stems icon is not there.

With this, I cannot help you, since I cannot look at the settings on a Prime 4+ myself. Maybe some of the actual Prime 4+ DJs on this forum can help you with this. On the SC6000M players however, there is no such thing in settings. Are you logged in with your Engine DJ profile? I think that you need this to use stems on the Prime 4+ ā€¦ this and of course some tracks which stems rendered without error.

You have to go into settings on your laptop and turn on STEMS.

Make sure youā€™ve signed in with your inMusic profile (the one you used to register the device with. It is usually your forum login as they are linked).

Not being signed in can cause you not to see stems as the unit ā€˜phones homeā€™.
